I was wondering how many of you have snoring husbands at home making it soooo hard for you to fall asleep.
Mine starts snoring the minute he closes his eyes and he is even wearing one of those breath-easy tapes on his nose. Of course he doesn't believe me when I tell him I couldn't sleep and I already think of taping it to make him listen. However,... it doesn't change a thing.

How are you handling this without moving to the sleepingcouch.
Looking forward hearing from you all.

My husband loved the sound of my CPAP. If he went to bed before me he would turn it on for the white noise. I have a new one now that is quieter and turns off if it's sensing that I'm not wearing it and he's missing the old noisier one.

I use the kind of CPAP mask with nasal pillows. It just attaches to the nostrils rather than covering the whole face. I swear by my Resmed Swift headgear. It is the most comfortable I've found.

Debra, my husband did a sleep study and was told he needed a CPAP but he refuses to use one. He said it would be to uncomfortable, too loud and that I would not be happy about that. He has not slept in our bed in 3 years. I know he would feel so much better and quite frankly, the noise of that CPAP would not bother me and be much better than his snoring!

We don't have any insurance either, but your ability to do any work is compromised by the lack of sleep. If you are able to come up with the money for the study be sure to get your machine and supplies online rather than using a medical equipment place. I use www.cpap.com and ebay mostly.

I would so love to send hubby to doctor. He knows he has a problem. He knows he more than likely needs one of those machines, but with no insurance and no money and no time off...we're kinda SOL. :0)

Just because you can't hear him stop breathing doesn't mean he isn't. There are full stoppages and something called hypopneas. These are moments of shallow breathing that are almost as bad. The sleep lab showed that I had several hundred stoppages and hypopneas during the night, but my husband never heard me stop breathing.

It would be worth it to get a sleep study done. My recommendation would be to work with a sleep specialist. You get more informed care. I've noticed friends who went though their primary care physician didn't take their condition as seriously and didn't have a lot of the information that I had gotten from my sleep doctor.

This is so great to get all these reactions from all you people. I knew I am not alone with this problem but I didn't expect this kind of response.
Thank you sooooo much and good luck to us all.

I have been noticing that my husband is snoring more while falling asleep.
In the middle of the night when he is fast asleep and I wake up he can even be quiet for some time.
He does breath, it is not as if he is not breathing. I really believe that this "puresleep" thing would solve all the problems.
Maybe I just put it under the christmas tree and see what happens LOL

Keep reaction though please, it is very interesting to hear all your stories.

Thanks

my husband snores too, bad. some days worse than others. i too often sleep on the couch or in one of the kids rooms.
its difficult, because i dont get much sleep and i work and try to manage the house and any where from 1-6 kids, a dog and who knows what ;-)
we recently tried a breath strip, it didnt work. he recenlty offered to sleep on the couch, but he didnt.
we've only been married for 3.5 yrs, it seems longer.
I try going to bed earlier, but i'm a light sleeper. Sometimes he even falls asleep on the couch right after work. i try to get him to go to bed, but he says he's going to watch this game or watch the news...

My SO snores horribly bad! Quite honestly, he's nice enough to stay up until he knows I'm asleep. IF, I wake up in the middle of the night I either have to suffer through it, spend a lot of time elbowing him to change positions, or just give up and head to the couch. He's tried those breathing strips and anything else we could think of and nothings worked so far.

My husband has sleep apnea and needs to use a CPAP machine. He has yet to get the machine, so when we are sleeping and he wakes me with his snoring he's pretty good about getting up and sleeping on the couch. Like some here, I have insomnia. It's been very difficult but my husband and I seem to have an understanding now. I just wish he would get his CPAP machine!

My husband and I have been together for almost 20 years. During these 20 years his snoring seems to get harder and harder to sleep with at night. He did the sleep study but has not gone back for results and treatment. I'm going to push him this week to get with the doctor as sleep apnea can be serious as mentioned above (heard attack, stroke,), his mental clarity and grumpyness can also be associated with this. I work with 3 guys that uses CPAP machines and they swear it changed their lives and attitudes.

Try to get him in for a sleep study. He can do them at home if he is not comfortable sleeping in the treatment facility.

Best of luck!

Well I have moved to the couch for the time being, and that still isnt helping :( DH snores so loud so I dont get a whole lot of sleep when he is working days. We have tried everything nose strips, sprays, humidifiers, ways he sleeps, everything that we can think of. So your not alone with this.

seriously? shhhh, but I actually smack his jaw shut, like over and over..and I push him to make him roll over ROFL..he knows this though..for a long time he would wake up and be like, dang I swear you beat me last night..uh, close LOL. NOTHING works!! i have noticed that running a humidifier does help some, the breathe right strips? FAIL! I guess I should actually get him to the doctor after reading all of these replies!!! scary!

pull the pillow from under their head . . it re-aligns the throat so then can breathe easier

This reminds me Desperate Housewives...last night's episode Bree was having the same problem with her husband and she "convinced" him to have surgery to take care of the problem...more like "coerced" him. LOL.
