This SWINE FLU is no joke. It hit me very hard starting late Friday nite, 1st me then my 2 year old...I took four shower to fend off the chills, soaked in Epsom salt, gargled with salt water, and the symptoms just kept growing. They came on fast and furious and there was simply no time to say, " I don't feel well" I just felt like crap! Body Aches and Pains all over, coughing so much it hurt my back and cramped my stomach. This is crazy.
So I went at 7:30 pm last night to the doctor and they confirmed in 15 minutes that I was indeed suffering from this horrible flu. Then, after a terrible hour long ordeal at the local Walgreens Pharmacy drive thru to get my 3 medications I finally made it home took my medicines and laid down in my bed. By now, the time is something near
12:30 am and my baby Ty 2 years old wakes up in the other room and is crying coughing like a seal and hot I say to myself Oh my Lord... please this can't happen right now. Well, I took his temperature and it went in seconds to 103 degress. So I rushed ( by rushed I mean it took me an hour to get us both ready to go to the hospital that is how weak I was, tired and exhausted and my legs just couldn't hold me up.) So, I get us in the car and drive to Children's Hospital I pulled up to the door and asked for help to get my son inside and I love and trust this hospital so completely they really love children and it shows in their care!
We are seen right away and in 5 minutes they confirm my baby also has this type of flu. So Tylenol and Motrin alternating at first then settling on one using the other only for break thru fever spurts he will be experiencing. This has been the sickest I have been in my 14 years of Single Motherhood and I feel for anyone who is going thru this like myself - alone as a single parent.
I just want to sleep and close my eyes but I can't every sneeze needs to be wiped, every cough makes my baby cry and the fevers only subside for 2-3 hours at a time. Now, I don't know too much about the flu but I know I have had a flu before but it seems to me there was at least a day or two of feeling kinda yucky and knowing an illness is coming not being hit so hard instantly feeling bad like this!
I love my doctor because she told me the media really hyped this flu up to be a killer but only if you develop pnuemonia and don't get yourself treated is it going to kill you. There are other strains of flu were are more used to seeing and hearing about and those flu strains kill more people than the Swine Flu does... Even the name they give it makes you feel sicker.
So I am writing this on my first 24 hours experiencing this flu to let all my Twittermoms know that it is not a death sentence to catch this flu.
Wash your hands and face and arms up to the elbows and when your kids come home from school, change their clothes and wash them right away, have them shower is best or at least wash their hands face and arms up to the elbows, increase your children's diets with fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, rice and multi vitamins and all the things good for us to boost our immune system directly. For me and my baby he has eaten about 9 popsickles, (I ate 4 popsickles),
40 fluid oz of gatorade and lots of water. Orange juice burns my throat at this point so we are staying clear of that acidy juice and eating vitamin c tablets it doesn't burn.
Air out your homes and let in as much fresh air as you can without catching a chill. Change your furnace filter and wipe and sanitize with bleach or eco equivalent and Lysol for spraying the toilet, handle, seat, floor sinks, faucets and wipe all your doorknobs and light fixtures with clorox wipes to kill the germs. Wipe down the computer keyboard, mouse and surface of the desk and arms of chairs.
I am wearing a mask because I am coughing so much and my other 2 sons wear a mask when they come to talk with me near my room.
I don't know if it will keep them from getting it the chances are very likely they will get sick too... but I have to feel good about trying so I do this. Makes me feel a tiny bit better.
Everyone can get this and it's all about how fast you start treatment once you start the symptoms and your fluid intake.
We feel at this moment slightly better but it comes and goes in waves. So take care of yourselves ladies!
Take care and go and get checked by a doctor when you develop the symptoms and rule out this nasty flu virus. Get lots of rest and let your body heal and fight. Sending you all Big Hugs and Big Love!
Please say prayers for me and my family to recover quickly and completely! Thanks for sharing your time with me I hope it helps someone. I am done typing and going to soak in the tub, then back to bed.
