I have a 2 yr old girl who is barely 21 pounds. The doctor has always been concerned with her weight, but now we are at the point where we may need to start running tests on her. We've tried to avoid putting her through that. I am very petite and my husband is average size. We think it's just genetics, but we'd still like her to put on a few pounds. Any tips on how to pack pounds on a child while still developing good eating habits??

Have you tried the pediasure drinks for kids? Or making sure you used whole fat cheese and milks?

My oldest has always been small - but her doctor has not been concerned with how big she is, only that she continues to grow at the same rate.

I have a daughter who is 19 months and 17 pounds so I know exactly what you are going thru. I have had tests run on her already. You should get her blood taken and get her thyroid levels, because that can be very dangerous. They did that and my daughter was fine. But I go back to the dr in Jan and they may put my daughter on a hormone. You do not want your child to be incredibly diff in height and stuff than other kids. I would def find out if everything is ok. Because if something is wrong and you avoid getting tests done than you could be hurting her in the long run. If something is wrong you want to fix it so the problem doesn't get worse. Plus it is a simple blood and urine test. You can talk to me any time. I am in the same boat.Good luck to your family.

thanks for your insight! I'm taking her to the doctor in three weeks, so I'll talk to her about it. You're right, though, its always better to be on the safe side. I was always much shorter than my peers, so I expect her to be as well but I certainly dont want to put her health in jeopardy. Did they test anything besides thyroid?

Well, they can test so many things thru blood. I would just tell them to test for everything. We give her Pediasure a lot. I think that helps.
