Video Blogging - Do you or don't you? Why?

  • Rating: No Rating
Helping Moms go from blogging to video blogging / vlogging is what we do. We have a program to help moms who don't have a video camera and want to get into video blogging.

If you are doing it - how'd you start?

If you aren't doing it - why not?

Do you want to do it with a partner sponsored program like the Creative Lab's VADO and NewBaby.com?

Not sure? Check out www.newbaby.com and watch some videos from causes to product reviews to a child's recital and an eco baby shower... topics are endless.

Just started my website less than a month ago. Realize this is the next thing, so I will have to figure out how to incorporate that. Need to get hair cut and hi-lighted first. hehehehe

Nope--I don't do it. I have no interest in doing it. Why? Because I hate reading /seeingvideo blogs.

I can read a paragraph of text in about 10 seconds on a normal blog. I detest having to watch someone stumble over their words, from a webcam that distorts their face, for a video of unknown content that is impossible to skim, thus holding me hostage for however long the vlogger rambles on.

If vlogging is going to be the way of the future, a lot of folks are going to have to learn a lot about how to do it effectively.

I know everyone's learning styles are different and some folks prefer videos, but when I did a quick informal poll on twitter, almost everyone agreed with me: videos on blogs are too time-consuming and most people won't click on them unless they're very interested in the topic.

Just my $.02. :-)

Thanks for your feedback. I'll be interested to hear your opinion in a few years when it will be the norm. Most Moms are very clever with their video blog posts and as they gain more confidence and experience they will definitely capture more views. NewBaby.com is a video destination site where these Mom Bloggers share their video blogs and we get LOTS of page views on our site and I know the Moms who do video blogging have increased views on theirs sites.

The recent Blissdom, Mom 2.0 Summit and changes at sites like BlogHer incorporating video into blogging shows that this is a growing trend.

NewBaby.com and MomTV will be holding a series of webcasts to teach Moms how to create video blogs from product reviews to basic blogging. We are fortunate to have some professional film / acting assistance for this.

Ah, yes, I've been known to buck trends before. :-) I understand that it's a growing medium. But I also think that not everyone will embrace it.

Still, it's nice to have resources like yours for those who want to make a go of it. The more people who do it well, the better the medium will become.
