We've all heard by now that Oprah joined Twitter on Friday. I would love to know what you think this means for the future of Twitter.

Please share your thoughts moms...

I (gasp!) don't watch Oprah, but judging by the number of follower she had before she ever tweeted a word, I'm guessing it will bring the idea of Twitter to a large new audience. Whether or not they'll become Twitter users, I'm not sure, but at least more people will know what Twitter is.

I got my mom on Facebook but I don't think she'll ever use Twitter. I think there's still a divide out there.

I'm undecided on my feelings. . .imo - anything Oprah embraces turns to gold. . .can she do that for twitter?? perhaps. I feel that she's one of the most influential people of our time and her support can move something from the everyday to the extraordinary.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. . .

I think it will for sure get more people to join Twitter... however, I'm not following her... I don't see a need to follow any celebrities, really!

I don't watch Oprah either but every time a well known person says follow me on twitter it gets bigger and bigger=~)

I don't watch her show anymore (since she's gone all new age and such), but I am following her on Twitter. I just hope all the extra traffic doesn't slow down all the Tweets!

A bit off topic but about celebrities. Am I the only one that finds it Ironic that Ashton has his 1 million and he has been trying to get everyone & their dog to help him. But he is following 80 people! It just seems a little backwards 80 to 1 million!!!

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed in the whole Oprah Twitter thing. I don't think her "tweeting" for a very brief period of time will have any impact on Twitter at all.

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of Oprah's, but I don't think her endorsement will make much of a difference. Technology wise, she's usually at the end of the wave.

Loukia, I'm not a celebrity-follower either. I'd rather tweet with real people who carry on some sort of conversations, although I suppose there are a few celebs who fit into this category.

Terri, I completely agree about Ashton's numbers. And did you know that Twitter somehow fixed it so that anyone who followed Ashton or CNN now can't UNfollow them? Doesn't seem fair, like they're not playing by the rules, IMHO.

I happened to see Oprah a few years ago when she had the Youtube guys on. Wonder if that made any real difference in Youtube's numbers?

I don't watch Oprah but I don't think she will be a true Twitter user. I think to her it's a fad and she did it because other celebrities are doing it.

That's an interesting question and I love reading the responses here. I believe now that Oprah has brought Twitter to a new audience that it's going to really explode. If someone wants to bring alot of attention to themselves I was thinking that this would be the perfect time to have an average person work towards getting one million followers. Ashton has shown that the tides are turning for the one versus the many, but really he is still a celebrety one.
