We've all heard by now that Oprah joined Twitter on Friday. I would love to know what you think this means for the future of Twitter.

Please share your thoughts moms...

Minnemom - Wow that is interesting I didn't know that. I guess it’s about PR for twitter and they needed the story.

What kind of pr frenzy could we start for the twittermoms...

Loukia, I'm not a celebrity-follower either. I'd rather tweet with real people who carry on some sort of conversations, although I suppose there are a few celebs who fit into this category.

Terri, I completely agree about Ashton's numbers. And did you know that Twitter somehow fixed it so that anyone who followed Ashton or CNN now can't UNfollow them? Doesn't seem fair, like they're not playing by the rules, IMHO.

Interesting comments here, mamas!

I think Oprah's tweets are bringing an awareness of twitter to an audience who are most likely unfamiliar with Twitter.

As far as celebrities using Twitter, I am not personally that interested. I follow a few "celebrity" authors because they post interesting content and I love connecting with writers of books I love.

I do think Twitter probably has a draw for many celebrities because it's a way for them to control their publicity. So, maybe we will see a spike in celebrity profiles, and if so, because of the gossip magazine-obsessed public, maybe Twitter will become more widely used. I hope those aren't the circumstances though! I'd rather people join (and use) Twitter for more creative and social means than just getting their celebrity fix!

I'm surprised Oprah wasn't on Twitter earlier, considering that she's typically introducing trends to mainstream America. News media has been on Twitter for nearly a year, and it was a big thing during the election process. So, surprised she wasn't on - in fact hardly an early adopter. Having said that, and while this tech mom has watched Oprah only three or four times due to work schedule, many of us early adopters are critical when mainstream joins us. However, just as MySpace was hot a couple of years ago, then Facebook, now Twitter - I imagine that there will be something else novel in less than a year. And those of us who are early adopters will jump on that bandwagon, and all of a sudden Twitter may seem a little less exciting for us. But without a doubt Twitter helps us to reach new networks quickly, and without direct costs, and broadcast our message. Oprah will only expand that network of potential customers for those of us who use Twitter for direct or indirect marketing reasons.

I think it will for sure get more people to join Twitter... however, I'm not following her... I don't see a need to follow any celebrities, really!

I'm with you. I like Oprah but I don't feel the need to be one of a gazillion followers.

I am surprised that it took Oprah so long! Her debut definitely created more awareness of Twitter and, probably, more people will join because of Oprah. I am very interested and curious how she will continue to use Twitter in the future, if at all.

Someone else will tweet on Oprah's behalf, anyway, and there will be so many teets full of info- it's much beter to visit her website to gather what we want from her. I have stopped following the well-knowns on twitter- it's constant info overload. I use twitter to meet new people and stay connected to the people I love.

She is just a person like anyone else. She gets her power from those who give it to her.

Oprah is big for Twitter and also the mention in NYT. I'm sure the website added many new subscribers, I would be interested in how many, you should post that.

I don't think Oprah will become an active Twitter user but it is great visability for the community!

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm happy that she's made more people aware of Twitter, but on the same hand, are those people going to really become a part of Twitter or is it just a phase for them? Are they going to participate or just join and sit back?

I'm also fearful that this is a way for Twitter to begin to monetize their site. Have you noticed the "Twitter definitions" under your stats? That may be a place for ads soon.

Other celebs have joined Twitter, like Ellen DeGeneris, Jimmie Fallon and Bonnie Hunt. I follow them and at least see some funny twits from them. Oprah, doesn't interest me much.

I had heard about Oprah mentioning Twitter on her show by my sister in law. So she asked me if I knew what it was and should she be doing it? It was quite commical actually. So I told her it was a bit like instant messaging, but with only so many words and only with people you follow and follow you back. I don't think it's quite for her. She barely emails.

As for Oprah having an effect; I think if she can get OBAMA elected, she can add a bunch of twittering activity. As for holding the effect? Well, that's up to Twitter and the people that get it! Not everybody, gets it.

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed in the whole Oprah Twitter thing. I don't think her "tweeting" for a very brief period of time will have any impact on Twitter at all.

this will open up twitter to a whole new user base. as much as we are entrenched in it, it really is amazing how many folks had never heard of it before last Friday !
