Thanksgiving is coming, and we're all planning our menus... I wanted to hear about what some of your favorite Thanksgiving Day dishes are. There are so many yummy ones!
hmm interesting question. I don't particularly like mashed potatoes or stuffing though I make them. I love salads and I like chunky cranberry sauce with nuts and orange flavor.. I love dessert providing it's chocolate..
sounds odd huh
I love cornbread sausage stuffing, and sweet potato apple layered pie!
slice up sweet potatoes and granny smith apples, place in layers with brown sugar and dotted butter in a buttered pie plate and bake at 350F for one hour. heaven!
Cornbread dressing completely from scratch - none of that boxed/bagged stuff - with an entire stick of butter in it. It is soooo bad for you, but it tastes so good. Ditto for pecan pie. Thank goodness those recipes only show up at Thanksgiving and Christmas at our house!
I love my aunts chicken-dumplings. They are SO yummy! She also makes this wonderful cranberry dish that is topped with an oat mixture and then baked. Oh my goodness it is so good! I'll have to get the recipe and share it!!!
Kraut-salad and potato dumplings ... mmm ... both are throwbacks to the big Sunday dinners my dad's mom used to make. Potato dumplings are just divine - balls of shredded potato and flour, boiled and covered with gravy. And kraut-salad. My mouth is actually watering. It's shredded cabbage, boiled to just softer than al-dente, a pound of diced bacon, cooked, plus all the grease, a few splashed of vinegar, then salt and caraway seeds to taste.
I could eat just those two things for Thanksgiving and be eternally grateful to my German-Polish grandma :)
My favorite Turkey day dish is "Stuffing Muffins"..LOL. And I love them to be a little crispy/burnt on the bottom. So much better to get gravy on them that way. Now I can't wait to have some!!
