What is/was your must have baby item.

I am preparing my registry and I am just overwhelmed. I think it is a combination of trying to be practical and the fact that this is not our first child so some of the "Shiny toy" appeal is gone. However, I don't have any baby items left.

So I reach out to you my fellow sisters! Tell me, what was the one item that you had to have for your baby and why?

I couldnt have survived without a swing, bouncy seat, or moby wrap. Especially the first 5 months. All 3 of mine had reflux and needed to be elevated. Even they dont have reflux I think these items are a must. Also a really good pump (Medela), if your breastfeeding.

Cloth diapers to throw over your shoulder, lay on your lap when nursing. Catches all those little mess ups!

Also loved having a swing.

My sling and stroller!! I have 2 slings that I love very much, one I used when my son was an infant, the other that I use now (my son is now 12 mos old) was very good when he was much smaller being carried in cradle position, but a miracle invention for carrying your older baby securely on your hip in a sitting position. It's inexpensive (under $30, comes in sizes, so no complicated adjustable straps.
I use a jog stroller for my little one. It is great for long walks and if you want to go running with your little one. Even if you don't want to go running, I found when I used other strollers they don't "ride" as well. $230.

When my babies were born and I breastfed - my nipples got really bad. So the one thing I would not do without is a silicone breast nipple. You put it over your beast and the baby breastfeeds without directly touching the skin. That was my biggest lifesaver to tell you the truth. Also the breast pump is completely essential. I had so much milk that my milk went hard and I had fevers. So taking the milk out will prevent this from happening. Trust me those are two most important items for you. Oh and also ask people to help you out. Don't be afraid to ask for help. It won't make you less of a mother to ask others to lend a hand.

You just can't live without a great diaper bag, one that you can put in the washing machine is invaluable. Check out maxwelldesigns.ca for a great eco-friendly diaper bag.

Lots of great suggestions here! One thing that turned out to be a MUST was a good swaddle blanket. My son wouldn't sleep without it 'til he was nearly 6 months old. A friend gave me a Halo sleepsack as a shower gift - the kind with a swaddle attached - and it made a huge difference for us. Way easier than regular blankets, too.

1. Medela Breast Pump...this thing saved me so many headaches and money. My God, it was like a little bundle of joy delivered from Target LOL.

2. Fisher Price Papasan Swing. My son loved the dual directional swinging. We had to pry him out of this thing when he got too big.
