What Was Your Favorite Moment of 2008

  • Rating: 5 after 3 votes
I LOVE reading and watching "year in review" specials, so I was thinking it'd be nice to here from some Twittermoms what THEIR favorite moment of 2008 was! I had so many, it is quite hard to put it down to just a few. One moment was during the summer when I very nervously sent my son and daughter on a plane (by themselves!) to visit their grandparents! As we're waiting in the terminal, my daughter (the older one by 3 years), put her arm around her brother, looked me straight in the eye and said "Don't worry mom, I'll take care of him"! yeah, I got just a tad misty eyed! They might fight like crazy, but when it comes down to it, they'll always take care of each other!

Do you have a favorite moment?

my favorite moment in 2008 has to be without a doubt witnessing the birth of my first grandchild. It is a full circle experience really.

It's going to be my son's first birthday on the 27th of Dec and although he hasn't had his b'day yet, I just know it is going to be the best event to happen in 2008.

My favorite moment of 2008 was when the final numbers came in and we knew Obama was the President Elect! My mom came over to watch the coverage with us and we all sat on the couch waiting watching the coverage on my computer. (We do not have cable.) Both of my kids cheered and danced around singing "Yes We Can." It was fantastic!
I can't wait for 2009 for the first time in a very long time I am excited about politics. It such a powerful thing to feel like you can make a difference.

I love that your kids were so involved! That's awesome! My daughter was really into the election too! We were all THRILLED when Obama won! I still get goosebumps when I think about that night

I have had so many wonderful moments in 2008. Choosing one that stands out is more difficult than I can imagine.
I'd been hospitalized and in ICU and my 2 year old granddaughter came in the room, demanded to lie beside me and we took a nap. Just holding her in my arms, not knowing if that would be the last time I would hold her, with my family standing around, It was humbling, faith-filled, joyous and peacefil.

As some of you may know, I make a practice of watching for the "best thing that's happened to me today" as often as possible throughout my day. (If you haven't yet, I invite you to see my blog on that "best" question at www.myspace.com/annduncan to see why I value that question so highly!)

So...my 2008 has been FULL of "bests", of course! One of the most outstanding "bests" for this year has to have been last month, when ALL my kids were home for Thanksgiving week, from Georgetown (Canada), Colorado, Nevada, and San Francisco, and all the love, serious talk, glorious food, and uproarious laughter that filled this place for those 6 days.

It's so clear to me, that 'snapshot' in my head, of that circle of (mostly grown) faces that kept gathering, snuggling up, eager, hungering for more of each other throughout that week. Does it get much better than that for a mama???

Perhaps the very best moment of that time was my third child's remark, just before catching her return flight to Ontario, that it was the very best gathering we've had yet.

We've had our share of tough stuff through the year. But my heart is full. And I'll be keeping a sharp eye out for as many "best" moments as possible throughout 2009 :)

"Best" Blessings to each of you!

The first thing that comes to my mind is my birthday. I got to meet a bloggy friend and her husband in person for the first time and they blessed my son and I with a wonderful evening. It was the best birthday I've had in YEARS. I'll never, ever forget it!

Beautifully said Ann, and thanks for the info on your blog! I will definitely be checking in on it! I actually just got the news that my sister came out of her surgery after four hours for ovarian cancer, so as we get to the end of 2008, I can add a moment, that she went through surgery fine (a big fear of mine!). She is a strong women, an amazing sister, friend and mother to her two daughters, I have high hopes she will get through this. And again, let me thank MY twittermom sisters for all their love, thoughts and support! Happy New Year to you all, you are great women and moms!

I haven't had the chance to read all the responses yet, but I have to say that my most memorable moment was when my son came home from the Job Corps for Christmas and presented me with his GED certificate. It was something I had come to believe was not going to happen, and I was so moved his achievement, and the pride he took in giving it to me. Hands-down, the most memorable moment of my life as a parent.
