Which of these "hygeinic" consumer products designed for mass consumption by women are really safe? And are they necessary?

I have never been a regular make-up wearer. Growing up, I actually felt like I was missing out on some aspect of being feminine that wasn't being fulfilled in me. But I realized with age and maturity, that this aesthetic beauty and vanity that is in our human nature is the fuel for the fire that feeds the Foo-Foo- Junk industry. For every little aesthetic "problem", whether real or imaginary, there are 500 half-assed products to fix you. This discussion is going to be an examination of some of the most widely-used and least-questioned products. Let's start asking questions together!

Why do manufacturers put aluminum byproducts in deodorant? Is there a safer alternative? Sadly enough, perspiration is a normal and inescapable human function. Stuffing your underarm pores and hair follicles with ground-up aluminum powder is the only way to prevent sweat from coming out. But, do we have to sacrifice our personal health to keep up with the rest of the consumer population of Foo-Foo Junk enthusiasts? I have not used deodarnt for about a year. I switched to "Natural" odor-contolling products that did not prevent me from developing underarm odor. Plus, I was still left with a bug hunk of un-recyclable plastic at the end of the stick. So, I switched once again to using essential oils on the skin under my arms. I buy them in glass jars that can be recycled or reused. I never smell bad, and I keep a stick of toxic poisonous waste for the rare times when I am going to be performing on stage, and would like to aviod the sweat stains on my shirt. It's not real good for the audience. :) I suggest using products like vetiver, a really pungent flower/grapefruit, wonderfully-smelling oil. I just put a glob on my finger and rub it on my armpit. Others are lavendar oil, essence of amber, and sudanese frankensence. These are all pleasant-smelling, safe alternatives to conventional deodorants. Save the Foo-Foo Junk for the special occasions. And ask my friends, I never stink!
