twitter moms: the influential moms network

Who is not attending the Blogher Conference '09?

I am not attending the Blogher ‘09 conference that is occurring this week in Chicago. I have always cringed at the term “housewife” and I have yet to warm to the modern expression of, “Stay at home mom”. The term “mommy blogger” is no less appealing but as I sit here writing and blindly social networking, in my father’s favorite smoking jacket, at the ungodly hour of 3:34am, I am realizing that a mommy blogger is exactly what I have become and I am ruing my decision to not buy a ticket back in March.

At the time of ticket sales for the conference, I was a blogging virgin and I did not fully understand the magnitude of the world I had immersed myself into. The conference is exactly what I need to break in to the important social networking aspect of blogging and meet the online community.

Instead, I am a wall-flower who is reading about all the opportunities I will be missing to meet my niche. Normally shy in large groups, I think I could gather the courage to rally and join the 1,500 other bloggers to attend the Friday night “Mommy needs a cocktail” party. Since I never sleep, I would be in full immersion at the conference jumping right in to all the social events from entering the Hilarious Tweet contest or the Best Pictures Taken at a Party contest to singing my heart out at the Karoeke party.

Certainly all of these opportunities to meet and mingle would be better then sitting at home by myself blindly learning the forever changing world of Cyberspace.

I wanted to correct what I think might be a misconception. BlogHer is not about Mommybloggers as a niche. It's about female bloggers coming together. I myself am not considered a mommyblogger, but as a Life Blogger (I don't talk about parenting all that much.) But I'm a mother who blogs, for sure. At BlogHer, you have big business bloggers, little business bloggers, single, married, parents, non-parents, political, religious, lifestyle, shopping, Tech - You name it, that kind of blogger is there. Yes, I'm talking from experience. Unfortunately, this year I'm unable to attend. Anyway - yes, even the newbie blogger would get something out of it (although for a new person to the conference - even if you're an experienced blogger, do your research 'cause that many people who do what you do can be incredibly overwhelming.)

Although it seems that everyone is going (that's what happens with social media, I guess!), there are many of us who aren't. Maybe I'll go another year; maybe I'll learn by reading posts from those who are there; but in any case, I'll continue to blog and continue to learn more about what I'm doing.

There's always next year . . .

Thank you for that clarification. It helps me to know that I don't need to fit myself into a classification that does not suit my writing style.

I learn more and more with each blogging day.

I'm not going, but I really wish I was! I've been blogging for over a handful of years on several different platforms, for several different reasons, but have just in the past 2 years or so have begun taking it so seriously. I would love to have the opportunity to meet some of the people I have met through blogging and social media, so maybe next year; it seems like it's panning out to be a really great weekend for everyone.

I live in Chicago and I couldn't get tickets. I do wish I was going though. It would be an excellent opportunity to network.

I would have loved to gone too but since I live so far it wasn't going to happen this year but next year hopefully.

I commend the women bloggers who blog on a daily basis. How do you tackle that large task? Most of the time I run out of my creative juices after focusing on other viral efforts with social media marketing throughout the day.
My blogs are stale and I would love to know some blogging techniques to keep my blogs alive and kickin'.
Any suggestions?
Whoever is going to this blog conferenc- have fun!

I'm at home - not at the conference. There's a great party going on at Pensieve for bloggers still at home.

I am not going and I wish I was - so many awesome women to meet there!

I'm not going either. I'm really new to blogging as well and didn't even pay any attention to BlogHer until last week. How lame am I?! LOL!! Oh well, maybe in a few years!

I agree that the social networking part of blogging is very time consuming and takes me away from my writing.

My new goal is to just make myself write every night about my day. As I write other great posts start to emerge. I let them sit and revisit them until they are complete. I rarely get them right the first or second time.
