why dont more companies offer stay-at-home positions?

The last two years after the birth of my son, and now my daughter; I have wondered why more companies do not offer stay-at-home positions???? I mean for those who think its easier to work from home, with two children under the age of three not so much. But I have to admit the hassle of drop offs at cold daycare, rushing to cook and try to bond with your children the little bit of time these jobs give you off is alot to deal with. I am on the search for companies who offer legitimate more than ten dollar an hour positions. My results have been that there aren't many available, the waiting lists are really long for these companies because so many people are applying now; especially due to our economic crisis. Over the next few months my goal is to secure a position that does have something to do with my experiences and not with cold calls or sales. I wondered if owning my own business is a better idea but the initial investments are rather large. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. I would love to hear your stories, have any of you guys experienced this problem???
