I honestly think that Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) is better. DDR gives you a serious aerobic workout, and it's a lot of fun. It has fitness settings where you just keep on dancing instead of stopping in between songs to see your score. You can put in your weight and a calorie-burning goal.
The Wii Fit has stuff more like yoga and balance-related exercises. I've only used it a little, though. I should try it more and come back to this thread.
I found that I really loved DDR after trying it with friends, so I ordered some really nice, thick foam dance pads from Red Octane and years later, they are still going strong. However, you jump around a lot for DDR so if you live above people, like in an apartment, it's going to make a lot of thunderous noise, even if you have the foam dance pads. So it won't work for everyone.
I do not have time to go to a gym but I want to exercise a little bit.
Would help me lose any weight? Is it worth the $$?
losing weight is as simple as calories in vs. calories out, so if you start moving more you will lose weight. but the key to keeping weight off is building muscle because your muscle determines how fast you metabolize food...the Wii fit is not going to build your muscle. The Wii fit is NOT exercise...it is an activity. It is a great addition to an exercise program, but it is not an exercise program. You'd be better off investing in some sort of weighted exercised DVDs.

Do you have any DVDs that you would recommend?

I am an avid gym goer and I love to lift weights because your metabolism in controled by the the amount of muscle you have in your body. When I can't get to the gym (which is not often) I use Core Secrets by Gunnar Peterson. I am sure you can find them online or check out the infomercials (I bought mine of infomercials) they combine weights with a fitness ball for added core strength. YOu can gradually get new weights for more difficulty as you get stronger. I have tried the P90x dvds and they were good too. I like the core secrets better, but many like the P90x. It is more circut training and I am not fond of that type of training. Check them out and let me know what you end up with. I would love to know how your progress goes!

Are the Core Secrets good for beginners?

I actually bought it a few weeks ago as alternative to working out at the gym or running outside. Just had a baby 4 months ago and really wanted to get back to working out! I love it so far. It definitely has a lot of options for exercise and not just aerobic type of exercise which I would do prior to the new baby. I can also work out on it after my kids are asleep which is a big bonus versus trying to find the time to go to the gym or run in the dark. You can really make it as hard or easy as you want it to and keeps track of your workouts. It definitely is a good purchase if you can stay consistent with it.
