Will you be sending out Christmas cards this year?

With Christmas fast upon us, will you be sending out Christmas cards? I always find them to be a waste on so many levels: time and supplies, yet I've sent them out in the past. What are your thoughts? Do you enjoy receiving them?

Yup - just popped them all in the mail today. I love getting them and love taking the time to write them. Not sure why LOL But then again, I was always the kid who would send out thank you notes for gifts that were given to me by my family for birthdays or Christmas, etc

Yep, gonna' do them through shutterfly - you can address them and everything through the site - first time to use shutterfly and it's a good way to give my peeps an update on my daughter, etc

Oh yes, we love getting the cards in the mail and seeing photos of our friends. We also send out a photo card to our growing list of friends and families. We tend to move a lot and sending Xmas and Holiday cards is a great way to catch up.

Yes. It makes my son so happy when he gets one addressed to him personally. I am not huge on christmas season but I do like getting cards.

Oh my gosh yes! My boys & love making ours every year. It's one of our traditions now. We also love receiving them! I have a scrap book that we made and save them, it's wonderful to look at!

I'm still debating. It seems like such as waste since most people read them and then toss them or hold on to them through the holidays and then toss them. That's a lot of paper, recycled or not, for very little use. Yes, it does feel good to get a card from someone, but then what? I know it may sound cold and impersonal, but it seems like an e-card is more practical and less wasteful. I do like the idea of photo cards... maybe for close family who might decide to frame the photo afterwards.

What's "green" mom to do? ;)

I share your sentiment exactly Holly! I embrace the holidays as much as everyone else, but Christmas, generates a whole lot of waste, from cards to wrapping paper to trees. I think I may jump on the e-card bandwagon this year and do my part to save trees etc...

I love Christmas cards... and I'll definitely be sending them out this year. I actually compiled a list of green, eco-friendly solutions to your *average* holiday card offerings -

At the same time though, like others have mentioned doing, I'm only going to be sending out about 25 to and family and close friends only.

I'm planning to blog about this soon (shameless plug: great designs available at MagnetStreetBaby.com) but honestly I love getting cards! Update letter + photo is my favorite, photo alone next best, letter alone next, then card alone. After the holidays I put all the photos into my regular photo album. My sister-in-law has a special album just for holiday cards; fun to look back and see various friends and family through the years.

Photocards used to be a good way to go (and still is for the near future) but with Facebook, ichat and Skype, you now have so many other ways to send updated family pictures.

Overall though, I think it's the thought that counts so I expect I'll continue sending them. I stopped for a few years when the kids were young and I was just too busy, but restarted two years ago.
