Will you be sending out Christmas cards this year?

With Christmas fast upon us, will you be sending out Christmas cards? I always find them to be a waste on so many levels: time and supplies, yet I've sent them out in the past. What are your thoughts? Do you enjoy receiving them?

I've kept every Christmas and birthday card I've received for the past 20-some years in a rubbermaid box. I never realized the importance of it until my sister passed away 11 years ago. Now every year, I take out the Christmas cards she had given me and put them in pretty picture frames to display over the holidays. My Dad passed away last year and I do the same with his cards.

Great ideas! That definitely gives them a more front and center importance!

I saw in Parents magazine that one family adds the cards to the tree instead of ornaments. The family felt that it was safer for their little one than the traditional ornaments. I also make them into homemade puzzles,

I definitely agree with the enjoyment of receiving pictures from our family and friends, but once I've read the card, I never know what to do with it. In the past I've lined them up on the mantle, then toss them into recycling. Does anyone have any interesting ideas on how to display their holiday cards?

I am way behind in doing anything this year - and this has been the norm for the past 4 or 5 years. I have friends and family all over the world so I often get discouraged at having to send cards by december 1 if I want my family to receive them by christmas. This year I am so behind that family overseas are not getting presents either. Its easier for me to get to it after the holidays when things have calmed down.
I have discovered this new site - Animoto and I am hoping to put a video card together. You just upload still pics, choose a song and then add text captions and the program automatically syncs it all together for you - a 30 second video is free. I've seen a couple of demo videos and its pretty cool.
If i do manage to get it done I will post a link so that you can see.

Yes, but only a few to the friends/family that I get cards from every year. We made our own super friends and X-men, Spiderman Xmas cards. They are soo cute..... I got two boys so this is cool to them. They like to personalize them and send a few to their friends. No more angels and such.

I have seen cards be reused by cutting and folding them into a standing rectangular shape, then placed around votive candles (that are in glass holders). Doesn't seem the most fire-friendly thing to do, but if the glass candle holder was tall enough, might be ok!

Yes, we always send a Christmas letter and photo to over 100 family & friends. Sometimes that's the only contact we have with friends who have moved far away.

This year, I'm trying something new. I'm using an online service that will send a personalized photo on the front of the card & our entire letter on the inside of a trifold card. I may even add some other pics on the inside. I've been sending cards to groups of 100 and I can do it in about 30 minutes. I love the time it saves and the personalization it sends.

Here's a workshop that shows how it works if anyone wants to give it a try:

Enjoying everyone's take on this.

I love getting Christmas cards from my family and friends. I save them all.

I always send photo cards, and I've seen them on the refrigerators of my friends and family members years later. I'm definitely going to send them this year!

For the first time ever I am sending out holiday photo cards. Yep, I actually got off my butt and took a photo and had the cards made up thanks to Snapfish. I had incentive: my 26-month-old daughter. Wrote about it the other day on my blog The Moxie Report. So check out Holiday Photo Rejects and look for the link at the bottom of the post to my Mommy Track'd article, Hurry Up and Say Cheese. Great tips for online holiday photo cards.

If I'm going to get something in the mail, I'd much prefer it to be a Christmas card than all the junk mail I receive! :-)

I wonder if a lot of people are re-thinking their card sending this year. Our cards have been so slow in coming that I blogged about it! Where Have All the Christmas Cards Gone?

E-mail, photo-sharing, and blog updates are great for computer-savvy people, but it doesn't work for the great-aunts and others who don't own or use a computer. I love sending and receiving Christmas cards!
