WordPress, Blogger or Other: Which do you prefer for business and/or blogging?

I think I just made myself a spreadsheet excel project...unless there's something already out there posted that anyone knows about. I'd like to view a top to bottom list of attributes and then a left to right columns of 'places' like WordPress, Blogger, Etsy, Google, etc. What are the pros and cons of all these choices to build a biz at? to blog at? This information would be helpful for newbies to make a decision on how and where to proceed next! Ever heard of any doc like that?
Technically I could try to build one on Google, a shared document. But I don't want to invent the wheel if one's been made already! :)

They all seem to be easy to use with built in widgets, but I haven't yet seen anything that does a real good comparison between the top blogs. Would be great information! Permalink Reply by ELLIE on November 9, 2008 at 6:04am: Well I use both blogger and wordpress - I like them both - they are very easy - I think you can find more widgets are easier to use on blogger - with wordpress - they have to be made specifically for wordpress - and that is not always available!!
To me they offer just about the same things pretty much - plus they are both free (which is a good plus in my opinion..typepad you must pay for!
Wordpress you can add pages to but can only make one entry in the additional pages - the main page is the only page you can add endless entries to.
Blogger does not have that choice.
I do not know of any such project you are speaking of - sorry!!

I think it depends on what you are comfortable with but so far so good. Like any aspect of a business I'm not sure that it matters what application you choose to use for your blog it's getting your blog out there and known so that people read it! The Plug-ins are better, the functionality is cleaner and it's just, in general a better platform to use for blogging.; ▶ Reply to This

and use the free blogging platforms for niching because sites like wp.com and google blogger do not allow the access to servers for choice plug ins or widgets.; ▶ Reply to This

Blogger is easier to use and customize templates without dealing with the code, though WordPress has more plugins and the page / post options. Of the two, I prefer WordPress. I haven't explored the others, maybe I should, but I just don't have alot of time. Blogger is easy for me, it's hard enough for me to write. Plus I don't really blog enough, maybe that's why I never looked at the others. Maybe I should, since I want to promote my etsy shop, but my life is pretty crazy right now and I've got everything on the back burner. I guess that doesn't help you much.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Miss Tique on November 19, 2008 at 12:11pm: First, I don't think that there actually is a doc to cover up 100% of everything you need, but I can't also put in the same bag WP+ Blogger and Etsy and Google for building up a biz. I know you tried to cover as much as online possible with those examples but...my suggestions for a newbie would be :

1. Blogging Research. Give yourself time and try the most important free blog platforms: WP, Blogger and Typepad . I also use WP and I personally think it's the best there is, but you may think different, because you may feel blogger closer to your heart and Typepad easier to use.

2. Online venues. Research. When you start the most important thing is to find the best cost effective option. Most of the online venues are free to register now. I'd try to create a free account on as many as possible and digg deeper, look for what they offer, features that would fit my needs (payment options, ~~low-~~0 listing fees, various ways to showcase my items, video showcase if possible, constant communication and support from the admins, chat with visitors, widgets etc) . These were the main that came up. Again you may want/see some other features as priorities.

After the research stage, I would draw a line, see the optimal choices, build a long-term business plan and go for it. If you don't have time for that, well that hire someone like me to help you out :)
