15 Days of Marketing Day Three: Take a Risk, Reap the Rewards

  • Rating: 5 after 2 votes
Day 3

Think about that aspect of your personality that makes you who you are that people online don’t get to see that much and embrace it, too. Yes, I’m asking you to go outside what might be your safe, cozy little comfort zone and show us who YOU are, what makes YOU human.

What are some ways you can do this?

  • Start vlogging. Video is great because your viewers can see your body language, your facial expressions, and watch you interact with the world around you. In fact, if you’ve been thinking about vlogging, I highly recommend you show some personality, otherwise your readers might be hitting “pause” more than “play” when it comes to your videos. Check out YouTube (the most popular) or Vimeo (I’ve used and like them) as your video sharing tools and post them to your blogs.
  • Sign up for 12seconds.tv. If you’re not quite ready for vlogging or all you’ve got is a webcam, this is a fantastic way to let your personality shine. You can even set your 12seconds.tv spots as tweets. And the widgets they provide make it easy to share your snippets with your audience. Plus, since it’s micro-vlogging, there’s no editing skills required, just do another take until you’re satisfied. 12seconds.tv also has a daily challenge for those that need a little inspiration. As a result of one of their daily challenges though, there’s a 12seconds.tv segment of me singing Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted Snake” out on the interwebs!
  • If video is still not your thang or you simply don’t have the technology, then do a “confessional” blog post about a little know fact or what makes you different, quirky, or unusual. Be creative.

What happens after you show your audience, potential clients/customers, readers your human, vulnerable goodness? They’ll share too. You’ll connect. And you’ll build relationships. As humans, we love to relate, to feel connected. As business people, we are compelled to spend time ensuring our audience feels an affinity to our brand, but what about the human behind the brand?

YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Show us your true colors using one of the ideas above and share it here in the comments and tell us how you feel about it. Then come back later and check out what other #15days participants are doing and share your thoughts about them in the comments section here too (and for extra credit, leave them a comment on their blog too!). Let us know you’re human!

Homework -
I don't have the technology to do this easily. I do have a YouTube account. I can get 8 seconds with my digital camera. I have a camcorder but I can't find all the wires to make it work with my computer.

I don't have a webcam either. Most computers that are being released now come with a camera already installed. I believe it's on the lap tops. I do like the idea of the 12 seconds.

On Twitter we were talking about Blogher '09 and how bad we all wanted to go and where it was going to be and how would we get the money. Me being the dork that I am had a brilliant idea for a joke and I just did it. I didn't know it would later become my submission for this assignment. Check the TOP right hand column of my side bar.

Wow , just poked my head in here to see what was ahead, this is deeper huh. I have a video, and do not like watching myself on it, so this will be a challenge....I might have wanted to wait till I was ready, I might accidently skip this one now, just joking, I hope! =)

I tried to get a head start on this, however I was having trouble getting my camera to work and then my recording volume to work. After hubby fixed it for me last night, I was able to get started this morning.

I am vlogging on 12seconds.tv http://12seconds.tv/channel/Mama4Kids Check me out and follow. :)

Oh and BTW I love the idea of vlogging, because as you can see from my vids, I dont often get dressed or put on makeup for the day or do my hair. If I made an effort to vlog everyday, then I would have to do those things, and would probably feel better about myself. So, all please encourage me, follow me, and kick my butt into gear if I don't. LOL

I LOVE it! Nothing like a little vlogging pressure to keep up your appearance. You rock. Where is your blog any way? Did I miss it in the intro?

Like Pamela I love the idea of using vloging to keep from getting into the sweat pants sweat shirt mode....which I have to confes I am totally in, well right now I have on jeans, but my hoody is on, it is chili here in S.GA, comething I had gotten used to not having around. I am gonna try to get my digital video camorder figured out, hubby bought it and I have yet to learn how to upload videos, or if I am using the right disk, 3 diff, kinds came in starter pack he also bought. I need to get back inthe routin of taking care of me, for me, I rarely leave my house, but that is besides the pint. I also do not like the idea of being on video never have. I know it might not make me get all dressed up, or makeup everytime, but I could do it on shopping days and such.....now I am rambling, this one I am gonna need some encouragement on.
I am headed to check of Mel's, oh and I also lost my usb to my camcorder Right after buying it and hunted adn hunted with no luck, but I found a universal type at Wal-Mart that had 4 different ends that you can interchange and it works like a charm, wanna say it was $15, I say it works, I do not know what to do one it is hooked up, there are so many ways to upload on my computer.
How do y'all video?
How, or what program are you going through, apple computer users will not help me, but might help someone else.

Pamela.....love the blogher or bust!!!!!

I go the easy route with webcams, I have a Toshiba laptop with built-in webcam and microphone. LOL. Although my hubby is extremely techy so if I have any issues he can come to my rescue. His computer has a simple USB one that you can buy from WalMart, and basically all you do is plug it in and it downloads the software and sets itself up.
