twitter moms: the influential moms network

Ugghh..I almost hate to start this discussion but it is something that has hit me very hard this year.

I've been hit with bad headaches, brain fog (big problem) and of course the dreaded weight gain. I am going to get my my hormone levels tested, just to be sure, and have an appointment to see my doctor (especially because of the frequent headaches.)

Anyone else experiencing perimenopausal symptoms?

I am! I also have bouts of insomnia, although they are not bad and only on occasion. Night sweats also...nice to know you (we) are not alone.

The hot flashes and night sweats are irritating

actually my headaches are getting better, but I'm starting the hot flashes. can't lose weight to save my life...so far, not too bad, it could be worse, and probably will be!

I think it's pretty normal for our bodies to change drastically every decade or so... hitting forty has been no different. Except that I had a baby at 39 and that changed things in and of itself! Hair texture has changed, body has changed, periods are from HELL again. I feel like a teenager - what w/ the pimples, horrible cramps, crazy mood swings, etc.

So, I don't know about anyone else... but YES, for me things are definitely changing. I see my OB/Gyn at the end of this month for my annual Girl Bizness appointment, and I'm definitely going to discuss this with him.

Cheers mama!

I'm with you! The brain fog about does me in -
I also don't sleep unless I take something and the weight gain...

Well, I'm 50+ & can vouch for the brain fog, which DH does.not.get.it

Weight gain? ummm, yup, and kiddos do.not.get.it. Everyone thinks it's of my own doing, which it.is.not. I wasn't 100 lbs. soaking wet when I got married almost 35 yrs ago.

And yes, I agree with the not sleeping, which is why you'll find me on these websites at 3 am. My days are my nites, and my nites are my days. Ha, and I still work FT. Supposed to be in for 7 am. NOT.

There. I've let off steam. Thanks for letting me rant & Hot-Flash, just like my blog disclaimer states.

Well, it's comforting to know I am not alone. I have a friend who swears by progesterone cream...anyone else try this?

I am going to get my hormones tested to see if they are out of wack...then I may consider adding the cream, but would appreciate any comments or concerns.

Not sure about me yet - I'm 46, and over the last few years have noticed I get insomnia usually the week or so before my period. I take Estroven - OTC stuff /w soy - and that seems to help.
I don't really have night sweats, but I sleep in only a thin shirt, and usually kick most of the covers to my hubby's side. My hair has gone crazy - curly when it used to be straight (with maybe just a bit of wave) and my skin is wacko as well. Actually ordered ProActiv, which seems to help with the major breakouts, but not w/ the red spots (and I hate wearing foundation to cover, I just can't keep from rubbing my face and boom - there goes the makeup).

Definitely talk to your GYN - mine just nodded and said "yup - yup - yup" when I described my symptoms. Not bad enough to try anything more drastic at the moment.

So glad to be here! Insomnia and just needing less sleep. More irritable. And the weight gain. In the middle. I had a waist once. I seem to have lost it.

I just read Robin's post - heck - I could have written it! I don't have the night sweats per se but in the morning I have a hard time regulating body temps. And around my period I get COLD all the time which is funny because of feeling HOT a lot in the mornings.

Other than that - just about everything everyone else has written has begun. Nice to be here with compatriots!

I was told I was in Perimenopause about 7 years ago. I'm still in it or in Menopause??? I have it all, hot flashes, chin hairs, mood swings, acne, no periods, then a period. What fun! I just wrote a post about hot flashes a few days ago.

It's good to be able to vent and have y'all understand. We just get all the fun, us women don't we?

I have not had my period for over a year. I have not had any symtoms. No hot flashes, no headaches, nothing. It just stopped. I had extremely bad periods prior to having a fibroid removed and then the periods just stopped. Did not experience perimenopausal, menopausal, and/or post menopausal symptoms. Not sure if I am lucky or if something is wrong. The only thing that I am having trouble with is trying to lose weight. It just does not come off. Also, I suddenly lost my waistline and have a thicker middle (hate this so much). Have not had a check up, but am due.
