I cannot deal with this! Every month, about 1-2 weeks before my period, I get these awful hormones that make me pissed off at everything! I'm in a constant state of anxiety and irritability for about 3-4 days. I cannot stand this anymore. It makes me feel like packing everything I can in a suitcase and flying to "wherever" for forever when I'm in the middle of one of these.

It leaves me with this inability to do anything for a few days. I can't make decisions, can hardly clean anything, can barely deal with the kids and the husband demanding anything from me. I constantly have to remind myself to breathe through it. Sometimes it hits and I don't realize that it is hormones until I'm raging like a complete crazy person at everyone.

Then as soon as it comes, it's gone again. Everything is fine except my family is left as emotional casualties after an episode.

Is anyone else dealing with this right now?

I have noticed this also just the past year I would say. I blow up at small things that would not normally bother me. I have a negative attitude. It sucks. Some months aren't as bad as others so I'm wondering if there is some sort of dietary difference here. I don't have an answer for this problem but I do sympathize with you. I know I'm really having a bad rage of hormones when my husband says "do you really think you had to react like that?" Just that line makes me angry but I also makes me realize it's the hormones and I need to chill out.

If I find anything that works I will share it with you.

There is a pill called YAZ that is supposed to help with these problems that you could check out.

That was me a few years ago after having 2 kids. Now I take "all natural" pills that really work from the Vitamin Shoppe called PMS Control. There are other similar ones too. I've taken a couple of different types and they all seem to work well. I like this one because you don't have to take it daily. They say to take about 3-5 days before. I just take a guess when I know I'm due soon. I have not noticed any side effects at all. Also, watch your diet. I truly believe that a good diet and exercise helps. I seem to have a better month when I'm eating well (protein) and getting some exercise.

By the way, I'm not a nutritionist and I don't make anything off PMS Control or any other product, I just swear by it! :) Here's the link. If it doesn't work, just search for PMS and you'll get a couple of pages of options.

Good idea Jacquie about the "natural" PMS pills. I am all for natural pills rather than prescription but all i could think of was that commercial for Yaz. Glad they are working for you. I will have to check them out at my vitamin store. It would be worth a try to see how it helps.

I also agree with you on the diet and exercise. I know there must be some connection. I know if you eat alot of salty foods before your period you usually feel more bloated and uncomfortable so there is some connection.

Is there a PMS diet out there? Anyone know?

Well, the hormonal funk is gone today. I can tell because I don't feel like I have a ball of lead weight in the pit of my abdomen. God, the past few days have been hell!

Thanks for the support and advice. I would try the Yaz pill, but since I am so over sensitive to the pill in general, my doctor doesn't recommend it.

I going to hit the vitamin store for the PMS Control stuff and see if that helps me out next time.

Happy Tax Day to All!!

Let us know how the PMS relief pills from the vitamin store work for you. They sound promising and like I say I like natural things rather than prescriptions anyhow as prescriptions have so many side effects. Glad you are feeling better.

I had this sort of PMS pretty much all through my 30s.

A bit off topic but probably related - I was just reading a forum thread regarding PMS hunger & cravings which suggested a few things: Most recommended "fixes" seems to be calcium, omega3s and 5htp. Here's the thread.

I've seen 5htp">5-htpsometimes suggested for depression - which is pretty close to how I feel with a bad bout of PMS. I don't know much about it and have never tried it - so I don't know how effective.

I only know for sure that my PMS is fairly non-existent now that I exercise, eat a healthy diet AND allow myself treats if I'm feeling the mood swings come on - which tells me my PMS is very likely serotonin related. Increased carb intake increases serotonin levels - which is why so many of us MUST have chocolate. NOW! BEFORE I KILL YOU ;)

Then again it could just be that I went through things (perimenopause?) a bit earlier than most!

I'm so looking forward to my 3 daughters and I are all hormonal at once! Raging will not be the word for it.

You should come to my house. Between my perimenopausal hormones and my son's teenage hormones, I'm not sure which one of us is grouchier. However, I'm pretty sure he's not getting teary-eyed at the drop of a hat like I do at times.

Oh boy, this is my life right now. I'm still on BC pills, but one week a month everything falls apart. During the month I can manage when I workout or just keep moving, but during my period I have to remind everyone that I need them to be careful (no drama)....I'm on the edge. My husband is now offering to take me on walks during the evenings because he can see a difference after exercise.....this is not fun.

No, actually my hormone surges have decreased substantially since turning 40. I am not as passionate about anything anymore.

OMG that sounds just like me and I turned 40 last summer and I'd say the "crazy" started about 6 months ago. Moody, crazy and irratable like a storm and then when its gone its gone. I too am going to try the PMS control and see how that works. I really need a plan to survive the next wave , each month its getting harder and harder to deal with the hormones.

I have a really down day about 9 days prior and feel bumbly and "brain foggy". The only thing that has worked for me is to 'not skip breakfast' during that time and it seems to have to be a protein (egg or something). I also take my Veema Liquid vitamins and sometimes a verve and it snaps me out of it! Still - I am not 'normal' but am functioning. Otherwise, I find it dibilitating - where I shouldn't even drive a car. It took me until age 43.5 to figure it out though!!
