twitter moms: the influential moms network

An amazing thing happened when I turned 40 (4 years ago), I discovered many new interests--one being photography.

I think being in my 40s has freed me up to some extent. I no longer care if I look silly or if my makeup and hair isn't just so. I did experience some anxiety, but I think it has something to do with the fear of change, and the more I focus on the positive things in my life, the more it lessens.

My son is grown and lives with his fiancee, but instead of feeling like my nest is completely empty, I feel like I'm gaining a daughter--truly. I feel appreciated when I get a phone call from the supermarket asking for my advice on certain items or a call from the kitchen asking how to prepare a special recipe. I am so happy to have the ability to share what I've learned with them. The future might even make me a "Grand"mother--which sounds pretty good right now.

Has anybody else noticed a certain freedom in your 40s?

Hi Angelnina!

Yes, I am definitely less pretentious. I still like to look good, etc. but I don't worry as much about the things that really don't matter anyway. I feel more confident and ready to try new things.

When I turned 40, we celebrated! It was fun! There are elements of the aging process that I DON'T like but I am looking at them as challenges to be overcome as much as naturally possible!

Life is to be LIVED, not endured!

I like your perspective! Have a fabulous weekend! :)

Exactly! I agree, I want to look my best too. I think I'm just not as all consumed by it. I'm more interested in enjoying my life and loving myself where I'm at.

Yes, there are plenty of elements I'm not thrilled about--my neck is at the top of the list LOL!

Something happened as I entered my 40s that gave me more confidence and the ability to mentor to younger adults is something I truly enjoy.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend as well!

I have! I've enjoyed every stage my kids have gone through--er, for the most part. Now they are in their teens and they are so much fun. We have some really great discussions, and they have helped me grow as they have grown. Now that they are self-sufficient teens, I have finally felt free to pursue my own passions which include creative writing, and dabbling in amateur photography. There's a season for everything! :-)

I agree! Raising my son taught me many things--we grew together.
