Okay so when did you realize you needed glasses?

I discovered when I poked my cornia with a make up brush and the dr. said ' why dont we do a eye test." Well come to find out I'm so out of focus I didnt even know I was! Lived this way forever. When I got my glasses I couldnt believe what I have been missing lol I didnt want to admit I was getting old..

You mean when did your arms get too short? ;-) For me it was around 47 and for DH it was around 42. Will be 49 next month and just got a new, stronger prescription. Doc says computers have nothing to do with it, it just declines fast once it starts.

Just made my appt with the ophthalmologist! Yes, today! First noticed when I was trying to trim my kids' nails...I have fought this every step of the way, and would probably still except I've noticed it's no use. And the weird thing is that if I take my contact lenses out, I can see anything perfectly within an inch of my face. What's up with that?!?! So yes, in two weeks I go...and I'll be asking for those bi-focal contacts..... did I just say bi-focal????

Ironically enough, my need for reading glasses seemed to hit me right after my 40th birthday! Like GiGi, the need seemed to come very quickly. I was in grad school and suddenly those words were getting very small...

As soon as I hit 40 my eyesight went downhill. Each year I seem to need stronger readers. I buy all kind of funky readers to match different outfits. If I have to wear old lady readers I want to be stylish! I get compliments on them all the time!

I realized at the point when I was holding things away from my face the way I had saw my parents do many years ago. I've had glassed for quite awhile. Probably since my very early 30's. I did notice this last year that it has gotten alot worse. Not being able to read without my glasses, drive or even things as simple as working on the computer. I will be 40 on August 21 so I am not looking forward to this next birthday. :(

I've worn glasses all my life. Then I had Lasik. One week after the surgery I needed reader glasses. Two years after the surgery, I'm back in real glass with a no line bifocal.

I was using reading glass right up until I couldn't even see with those. It, too, hit like a rock. One day I was good, the next day I just couldn't see. Went for an eye exam all to find out I needed "tri-focals" UGH! I went with the progressive lens, which they said would be something to get used to. I had no difficulties. I thought it would be cool, hip, trendy to wear glasses. Ya know what - it's NOT! I am thinking contacts until I can afford LASIK.

Just this year, it is impossible for me to read, which I love doing, without them. I can still use the computer without them, I work on the pc all day, but when I try to sew or make jewelry as well, I have to have my glasses. So sad.

Hello!
Im 47 and Ive only worn glasses briefly in high chool for stigmatism
I havent gotetn glasses, not sure I need them either
I wondered about the computer too, because since we've had a computer
3 out of 5 members of my family have gotten glasses,
we were told it produces eye strain.
Im also wondering if just getting a good nights sleep which is also an
issue now isnt more the issue, on the days when everything seems unclear, lol
I was a night owl to begin with now add the hormone changes
if I dont get my good walk in I can be up all night!

Great topic! About 3-4 months ago - I'll be 48 in October ... 3 years of working from my home office = mega hours on the computer - I blame it on that.
