What are your favorite books for your preschoolers?

I have a 3.5 year old and we read anything about Thomas the Train and Cars. I would love to broaden his horizons - any suggestions?

The kids learn about their own personality as they learn to love the characters they discover their own strengths. Colourful books and they help parents too. Great stuff!; ▶ Reply to This

Caroline Kennedy has a great book of poems for children, which both my kids have read and enjoyed since about the age of 2. Shel Silverstein is also fantastic. The poems are mostly silly and a great way to get them into reading poetry.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Jessica on July 8, 2009 at 10:52am: If you haven't checked out the Skippy Jones series it's fantastic. I give one of the series for any pre-schoolers birthday party that I attend. We also love Where the Sidewalk Ends and Fat Cat On A Mat. Really any book that either has engaging pictures so my son can make up his own story or simple stories that he can memorize and then "read" himself are wonderful. Although it may be for a slightly older kids, it has a nice message. scholastic & some other book sellers have age appropriate books for kids of all ages - you can check them out as well.

Especially the sticker books, She also likes the old book from Seasame Street called, There's a monster at the end of this book. It's really old and we found it at a used book sale. Angelina Ballerina, and Clifford the Big red Dog.
My son liked, anything Thomas the Tank Engine, he also liked the classics , like Make Way for Ducklings, The Cat in the Hat , Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel and books on volcanoes
for my eldest dd she always enjoyed Jesse Bear by Nancy White carlstrom- any of them. Nursery rhymes, Make way for ducklings, fairy stories and books about unicorns (Jewel). But she always asked me to tell her stories from my head. So that was challenging. I made up a story about a pink pony that drifted off to sleep and flew around on-top of the clouds.; ▶ Reply to This
