twitter moms: the influential moms network

I'm out of books to read...it's devastating. I've read the Twilight series (absolutely obsessed), read Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas books...read "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer. My favorite books of all time are "Gone With the Wind", "Pride and Prejudice", "Wuthering Heights", and, of course, the Twilight series. I'm open to anything, though. Any of you read anything lately that just pulled you in?? I need something like that. Something to pull me in, an escape from reality, so to speak...anyone know what I'm talking about? LOL

Have you tried anything written by Gregory Maguire? I'd recommend anything by him!

One of my top ten books--which begins a hugely addictive series, is a free ebook until 4/15 at TheBeeisFree.com--The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King. It's very YA-friendly and was actually chosen a YA Notable book by the ALA when it was first released. You should grab the download while it's up, anyway, even if you don't plan to read it right away.

Ok, I totally hear you on Twilight. I was actually just thinking of rereading them. How sad, right? But books I can think of off hand that totally drew me in: The Time Traveler's Wife, The Red Tent, Middlesex, Prince of Tides, A Million Little Pieces (I don't care that it wasn't totally true, it was still a fantastic read), Water for Elephants . . . if I think of more I'll write again.

I loved the Red Tent and Middlesex. I've picked up The Time Traveler's Wife and Water for Elephants so many times, then put them down again...maybe I should try them. Thanks!

What's that one about? I dont even think I've heard of it! I own both Jane Eyre and Count of Monte Cristo, lol. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to classics. I love them all.

My favorite that I recommend to just about everyone is "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak, if you haven't read that before. Or, if you're wanting more of a classic, Count of Monte Cristo or Jane Eyre.

Ever read any of Beverly Lewis' books? They are easy to read, difficult to put down and very informative regarding the Amish lifestyle.

The first one I ever read was THE SHUNNING. She has several series of books out. I highly recommend them.

I have the same problem, me and my mom read the twilight series together last year and we were so desperate to find something else to pull us in after we finished them. My mom found some books by Jude Deveraux called Allways, Allways and Forever, and Forever. She was kinda disapointed that they were not as good as twilight but I thought they were really good. So I hope that helps.

How about my book, FIRST SATURDAY? It was published in 2002, but there are still a few copies on Amazon and B&N. I actually had a rain-out at an outdoor festival where I had a book signing, so I have a box that I've been saving for speaking engagements. I hope to publish it with a bigger publisher, at least in trade paperback, but I have also sold copies at a discount just to get them off my hands.

I don't want to "advertise" it here, so forgive me if this sounds cryptic. Let me know if you're interested.

I LOVED The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, too. A Thousand Splendid Suns was on of the best books I've read in years. Also - on the other end of the spectrum, but still fun - Wade Rouse's Confession of a Prep School Mommy Handler was witty, snarky and well written.

Good luck!
