What substitute products or recipes do you recommend?

Morningside Mom mentioned Sunbutter in a response to another discussion. Do you have any products you love that are allergy friendly? What about recipes or cookbooks? I know I struggle with egg substitutions, but have found the "What's to Eat" cookbook by Linda Coss to have some great recipes that avoid many allergens (although I don't think it's gluten free). Any other suggestions?

If you can tolerate soy, I prefer Soybutter (Walmart brand) to Sunbutter, for flavor, texture, and baking. (This is a hard statement to make since I grew up in sunflower-growing land!)

For pancakes, at least, a half-cup of applesauce in place of an egg works very well. Ener-G egg replacer worked well for some recipes (yummy banana bread!) but not others (brownies, cakes).

In place of granola, which almost always has nuts, I've been using Honey Bunches of Oats "Just Bunches." It's great on yogurt, and was delicious on caramel apples.

Looking forward to hearing other ideas!

Terence Stamp the British actor has a range of recipe books that focus on dairy and gluten free meals, he also has his own range of flour etc. He gave us the recipe for our dairy and gluten free wedding cake which went down a storm, none of the guests noticing anything different!

Hi Everyone! If any allergies include skin sensitivity, come by www.SunFriendlyProducts.com for alternative ideas of protecting skin. A few recommendations..the Solaroo SunSheet is a light-weight 98% UV blocking sheet that ties to a baby's stroller, a front carrier, just about ties to anything. If direct applications of sun block cause skin rashs, this product is a great alternative. Next, try the Solaroo UV blocking swimshirts or t-shirts...again, they are typically 98% UV blocking and can come in long or short sleeve, and even products like blue lizard baby sun block are chemical AND fragrance free, easier on the skin! The swimwear dry's quickly due to the material, so moisture does not lock in like some swimsuits. One more thing, the Solaroo line does not contain sun block that can wash out, the products are certified UV blocking due to the tight inter-locking stitch!

Stop by and browse if skin sensitivity is an issue.

Thanks!

Jen

I've found several cookbooks, such as Baking Without Eggs and a few others. I'll have to get the titles for you when I get home.

Also, pioneer brand complete pancake mix doesn't have or call for eggs. It has to be the complete version though, the original buttermilk calls for eggs.

We also use soynut butter by I.M. Healthy although my daughter won't even it that because she's been warned about her allergies since she was 4 months old.

Also, when I bake cakes, I follow the recipe on the box except I use one mashed banana for every egg called for.

Good luck and I'll get you those other titles! Amazon.com is a great place to find allergy safe cookbooks!

Here are the three cookbooks I use on a regular basis. The sugar cookie recipe in "Bakin' Without Eggs" was requested 5 times by Kaitlyn's school this year!
