Protein and calories have been our biggest battles. I have a terrible time getting my son to eat meat. He is 18 months. He doesn't like quinoa much either. He won't eat fish or chicken either. Fortunately for me he will eat beans sometimes, particularly refried beans. I can sneak him some finely ground hamburger once in awhile. But, as you said, Kadie, your son can't have that. Sunbutter has been the best thing we found. He absolutely loves it. We had about a two week stretch that that was all he would eat for his snack. I mean that was all. If I put it on a cracker he would pick it off. I ended up putting it in a bowl and handing him a spoon. I will say that I bought the crunchy variety (because I like crunchy pb back when we had it) and when I was washing him up I got a little piece of seed under the cloth. I put a scratch up his entire cheek before I knew it. I felt so bad! I don't remember seeing grains. I have also been getting him to eat some cereals high in protein. I don't know how I will ever get him to eat meat though!

You are not alone - protein for allergic kids can be HUGE issue esp. when they get picky to the ones they can have. How is he on seeds? There is a great "clean" sunflower butter called "Sunbutter" but only w/ dr. approval. I think it's really hard to "hide" meat. Quinoa is a really high protein grain. There is a cereal called "Quinoa Crunchies" on allergy grocer (I hope it's still there) that even I liked or you could just make it and add veggie or even fruit..

as of now its the whole egg. he is supposed to have more testing in May and hopefully we can narrow down some of his allergies. i have tried mixing chicken into everything, but he picks even the tiniest pieces out and will refuse to eat the rest. its amazing how he can tell. i havent heard of bean paste...where can i find that or do i make it myself? and he does love noodles and spaghetti sauce, so i could probably sneak that into the sauce :)

Kadie have you tried mixing a bit of mild bean paste or meat into a sauce. You can put it on pasta if he likes that. I have to hide all kinds of things into a sauce with my son. He will not eat veggies and meat but loves pizza and pasta. I know you can find gluton free pasta I forgot the brand name but I'll try to find out for you and yolk free pastas' Is it the whole egg your son's alergic too or just the yolks?

Hi Everyone,
My name is Kadie. I am a mother of 2. My son who is 21 mos. has severe food allergies. He is ana to eggs, dairy, potatoes, peanuts, tree nuts, beef and pork. He is also allergic (eczema) to turkey, soy. On top of all that, he is an extremely picky eater. so his diet is basically rice, veggies and fruits. he will not touch fish or chicken. Anyone have ideas for sneaking in protein? he will not eat beans either...

Grace... I too am a melaleuca user. It is the only thing that got rid of my own skin irritations as well as my sons ecxema. Don't even get me started about what I found out about Johnsons and Johnsons the so called "family" company..... full of harmful things. Yikes!

denise. I read what you wrote. I worked for our school board for a number or years and I was amazed at how many parents did not take the peanut free policy seriously. Because their children never experienced a severe alergy like the ones your child is experiencing they just think an alergic reaction is like sneezing in the springtime. No big deal. Unfortunatley many people just don't get it until they have to experience it for themselves. Not to mention how many staff fought me when I had to administer an epipen shot to a child stung by a bee. They wanted me to fill out the paper work and then get the pen and then get the child. I threw policy to the wind to get that shot to the child ASAP. The parents were grateful but The staff gave me a hard time. Even in the schools though we are educated about these conditions some people don't realize that paperwork can wait when time is of the essence. Together we may be able to teach people just what all this is about.
