Buddhism :)

Just thought I'd start a thread about this one. :)

I see there are a lot of folks here with Buddhist tendencies. After many years of studying Buddhism, I really like the "meat and potatoes" of the faith system. When people ask us about "church," it also provides a way out by saying, "oh, we're Buddhist." :)

Anyway, I'd love to hear more about your path with Buddhism (if any).

So far my path includes reading a book {shrug} you gotta start somewhere.

My dh was raised christian and was a bit uncomfortable when I declared, as a breath of fresh air to myself, that I don't believe and never did. I just couldn't pretend anymore and didn't want to. Admitting it to myself was huge, he was next. Over time we've had some great talks. One day he picked up a book I had about Buddhism and he was hooked. He really identified with it. He has several books he enjoys but I can't seem to get into them. I believe in many of the same philosophies that Buddhism teaches and try to instill many of them in our kids. My son is a big believer in karma and is very careful to do the right thing so good things happen to him.
I believe so many of us may be interested in Buddhism because it is a spiritual path and the individual is responsible for their life instead of relying on a god to decide if you are good or not.
