Have any of your children told you that they believe in God?

My husband is a non-practicing Christian and we live in the very religious area of Virginia. My kids get a lot of exposure from friends, other family members, school mates, etc about Jesus and God and Christianity in general. My daughter (age 5) has no concept of what that all means except that she thought Jesus was sort of like a Policeman because her friend told her that Jesus would save her {eye roll}. My son, however, tells me that he believes in God and that God is in his heart. He's seven and has had no education in regards to God. When he asks questions I tell him what I believe and what other people believe. My husband hasn't really talked to him much about it.

My take on it is to continue to emphasize what I believe and continue on in that manner. I'm just wondering if any of you have come across this with your own children.

One of my twin daughters spoke of "god" very early in her life. She believes in god firmly, but that it is a female horse. *giggle*

She likes the concept of "god," but doesn't have much patience when other kids ask her about church, etc. This she does without any help from me. She is my wild child...the kiddo that keeps me grounded in reality when I get too full of my own issues. ;)

Great book for this, that really helped her was "All I See is Part of Me."

I like the female horse interpretation - it's as good as any other.

I'll have to look up that book!

I think you need to ask him What God is to him. I think it comes down to your definition of God. Some people literally believe it's some white dude in the sky... others it's a feeling of good will. Personally... I'm drawn to the interconnectedness of all of nature. They have found an underlying "order" to it all in fractals. That to me is proof that there is a force at work guiding all of creation. No I don't believe in a traditional "God" but I think fractals speak to the spiritual part of everything.

I have "Love" in my heart for all of creation but I don't think God put it there. Maybe that's what he's feeling?

At 7 he doesn't have the vocabulary to explain what it is he's experiencing. Introduce him to the Spaghetti Monster and see what he thinks. :-)

Please don't confuse God and spirituality with Church and religion. There is a HUGE difference, mainly one is what it IS no matter what thoughts or beliefs anyone holds and one claims to be divine but is created by man. One can believe in God and be spiritual without belonging to a church or believe in religion.
