I forget where I read it but someone said that they go to book stores and move all the bibles to the fiction area! It was someone like Bill Maher...

I love the bus ad. My hubby brings it up daily. On another note, we went to Barnes and Noble for our "date night" it was glorious... except that they had 26 bookshelves on religion, of which only 2 were non-Christian and people were giving me dirty looks for reading about "familiars" and totem animals with my back to the 2 bookshelves of various Bibles. I laughed at them. I'm sure they prob think I'm just crazy... which is fun considering I'm a counselor. LOL

Carolyn, I did see that! I love that Dawkins matched the $5,500 they needed to get this bus ad campaign started in London.
I'm not so sure I agree with the message though.
"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life"

It's not that easy for people to just relax and enjoy life right now.
The economy crisis isn't just affecting US citizens, it's having a trickle down effect on a lot of other countries too, including Britain.
And let's not forget that they are also involved in the Iraq war too, so stop worrying? Enjoy your life?
Easier said than done, but I do like the idea.
I doubt it would ever happen here in the US though.

We did Santa because I enjoyed it as a kid. We also give to others less fortunate. Our office sponsored a children's shelter last year and my kids came along to give gifts. I'm hoping this year to spend some time in a soup kitchen. Hopefully that will become a regular thing for us. I try to explain all the different holidays to the kids. We get hit with a lot of "Jesus is the reason for the season" because we live in the Bible Belt. I like to celebrate winter solstice and clarify a lot of the misconceptions about Christianity and the month of December ;-)

OT.
Does anyone know how we edit the time zones for our viewing of Twittermoms?
It's about 3 hours behind my actual time zone and it's driving me bonkers. LOL

We do "the holiday season," starting with their birthday in November. We do all the social trappings of the holidays, but point out that many people have many beliefs (Yule, Kwanza, Christmas, Hannukah, etc.). The girls were terrified of Santa for years, so we skipped it. The past 2 years they really enjoy the concept of Santa, but don't quite understand it.

We like Santa, but don't overplay it. :) They kids have all figured out it is us anyway...and go along with it because it is fun.

And that whole "Better be good" crap is for the birds. Yikes!

:)

I was so happy to login and see so many new moms join our group!
Welcome to all of you, jump in, post, have fun, and share how you raise your kids with different beliefs or no beliefs.

I really think that we can be helpful to other moms who have decided to raise their kids this way too, and to help other open minded moms understand that we share the same morals and ethics as them minus the belief in a higher power.

Welcome!

I wanted to clarify. Our daughter will be receiving presents, just she'll know it's because we love her and enjoy giving her things she wants, not because "Santa" said she was good... which, let's face it... who can be good 100% of the time for a year? And how will we define good anyway? I don't want to blackmail her with Santa either, although it would be in my benefit at times.

I'm interested to hear what other moms do at Christmas time? It's such a religious holiday and I dont buy into the whole secular Santa thing either. DH and I decided to forego the Santa thing and focus on giving to others instead of receiving presents for good/bad behavior. What are your ladie's thoughts on this... cause it's beena touchy point with the grandparents and friends.

I'm fascinated by how many of us are drawn to Buddhism.
