I haven't been on the site for awhile and was surprised to see this group. I am happy that those of us with a different set of beliefs, or none at all, can have a place to discuss freely with each other. My husband is studying Buddhism and I am interested in learning about all types of beliefs.
I have 2 teenagers who have been raised to believe that having good morals and treating others with kindness is the path to happiness and they are intelligent, well rounded human beings. I have always found it interesting how people may think you are great and interesting until they discover that you "don't believe" and then suddenly they may stop calling or treat you differently. I believe this group can be very beneficial to all open minded twittermoms.
I look forward to talking to you all!

Raised in Scotland where all assumed EVERYONE is protestant..I like the 'idea' of religion but just don't buy it and hate the history of organized religion.

I don't like religion being used as a crutch or an excuse...HOWEVER am guilty of talking about heaven when my kids grandparents died since the 'they are just gone forever' thing really kicked my son in the gut.

DH is atheist. Raised Catholic. More of a Universal Unitarian. Right now I'm studying Buddhism, applying the secular aspects that I find applicable to well being. I have found a great question that helps me define my beliefs/faith is... What do you believe/do that helps you when you are in a crisis?

hi all :) Glad I found this group. I guess i would have to say I'm a secular humanist with a Celtic heritage who follows a Buddhist philosophy of peace in life. Does that make sense? I just can't believe in a magic sky wizard up there making all my decisions in life.

Ya'll might get a kick out of this as well, but I just founded the Church of Baconology...was an inside joke about my husband and his friend loving bacon so much and it kind of morphed into a website.lol no offense to any non pork eaters... go have a look if you like :) www.churchofbaconology.com

Oh my gosh! Hi to all the new members!
I'm so glad to see this group starting to pick up, I knew I wasn't alone! *wink*

Please, make yourselves comfy, post whatever you'd like to discuss.
No matter how we identify ourselves, we all have this non-believing thing in common, and I'm sure as the group grows, we'll discover even more in common.
Don't just think of the discussions in terms on being "on topic", talk about what you want! :)

I'm a Jewish atheist. We are proud of our Jewish heritage/identity, but don't do any of the religious stuff. Basically, we do the fun parts, like getting together with the extended family for the holidays, but we're not so much with the fasting and praying. DH is not Jewish, but is also an atheist. We're also homeschoolers, which has sometimes presented challenges in finding groups that are inclusive enough to include us (as much for the Judaism as the atheism).
