Yep, here is my new facebook group to get support for families in my area that a friend and I have started:
"Choice Words"
I have gone from a quiet in the background person, to someone who will now say what is bothering her, to someone who will speak up if something isn't right (depending on the circumstances of course). I had to find my voice, because I wasn't getting anywhere without it...

Thank you Catherine, Your right. I am one of those of people that likes to stay hidden in the background. This has changed that alot.

welcome Alexis :)! I am not surprised at the reports about Autism is on the rise, I am sure it has a lot to do with the chemicals and processed foods and other things we are eating/using everyday. It is scary though to know/hear that it is on the rise, and hope that they will figure out what is the cause or why this is on the rise.
As for creating more respite care, and help for families like us I find the squeaky wheel get's the most help. So become vocal, I know it is easier said than done...I am one of these people who would rather fade into the background. But at the same time if we don't fight for things we need and our children need who will?? Myself and a friend of mine are currently taking our concerns to the school board for our city, regarding lack of support services/Speech therapy in our schools. We are doing a presentation about it to the school board at the end of November, doing petitions and everything :)! Awareness is key, but yet if no one shares the information to the public then they are all left in the dark and don't know anything about it. It makes it hard for them to be part of the solution, but if all of us parents keep talking about it people will start to hear and learn. This is what I have learned anyways :)!

Hugs,
Catherine

Hi I just joined. My son is six. I am also on twitter. what do you all think about the recent reports on the rise of autism? I wish that these reports would help create more respite care and help for families like ourselves that need it the most. Mostly they just talk about awareness without informing the public how they can be a part of the solution, by giving families the support they need.

My son Ethan, has done the behavior that I am about to tell you about in the past but now it seems that he is doing it more frequently now and he doesn't show any remorse or check to see if the people are okay. He is plowing through people, it is like he doesn't know the rule for personal space, or to say sorry if you bump in to someone. But this is different in that he just plows through them, and keeps going...this past weekend he plowed over a little girl who was 1 1/2 years old, and then again to his great grandmother. Luckily, they are both okay but we need to figure out how to fix this before he does really hurt someone badly!!! Am looking for suggestions, as anything we have tried hasn't worked....

Hugs,
Catherine

If autism has a to-do list, it might look ilke this: formed when you're half asleep, and never, ever done. http://ow.ly/sDKm

Hi Catherine, i've had the same kind of problems with my kids doctors in the past, i can relate to your frustration. Have you tried getting the school to talk to your child's doctor. Or maybe the ESE director, if the school is already aware that there is a problem, maybe they could get the ball rolling. I've had to do this more than once, and i agree with you, doctors like to play the wait game. I hope this helps, talk to you later.
