A new drug that's in the trial stage sounds SO promising... they're examining whether this can help kids with Fragile X and autism talk and learn better. No chance it will be available before 2011, probably, but how great that will be.

Hi Ladies I could really use your help. I am trying to explain Autism and Behavior to my father but I don't know how to put it into words. Now don't tell him this...LOL I get comments like how do you say it's autism or how do you say it's just a bad behavior. You can't they go hand in hand. If you have feed back or want to leave a comment. Please I welcome it just click HERE and it will take you to my Autism Question

Ever wonder what it would be like to be Temple Grandin's mother? I'm thinking of going to this talk by Eustacia Cutler (Grandin's mom) in October. Financial aid available; other interesting topics are navigating insurance, yoga, and biomedical interventions for autism: http://ow.ly/pDcg

Maybe I'm taking the word "spectrum" too literally but this week we're showing gorgeous images of rainbows and rainbow things on our blog - come visit! http://ow.ly/oHJb

I got a call from Ethan's teacher Friday late afternoon, expressing her concerns:

~he has been repeating himself over and over in his answers, quesions, statements...otherwise known as scripting.
~He needs a lot of prompting
~He fell down some stairs at school, looked up at the teacher and said "Wow that was fun" poor teacher was horrified.
~He is having trouble with transitions

They are keeping a close eye on him, with the Autism team at our school...but without a diagnosis we are floating in limbo. However, his teacher did say to me that she feels that he has something on the Spectrum...Asperger's to be exact with other underlying issues. Which I knew already...but now my question is how do I get the doctor's at our children's hospital to get off their "wait and see" wagon and get on with us?? How come the professionals take the schools more seriously than the parents...we who spend the most time with our children??

frustrated,
Catherine

Hi Catherine. I agree with Holly. A Pec schedule can help. Transitioning can be difficult, but you just have to get through it. Is he attending all day or just for a few hours? Is there a plan in place at school to help him when he is upset?

My husband found a really inspirational story about a young woman with autism who started her own micro-business: http://tinyurl.com/kkzr7v (PS It's even a green business!)
