Vaccines + autism. I don't believe there's any link, and I'm a bit irritated that Matt Lauer is giving airtime to Andrew Wakefield on NBC tomorrow (7pm, NBC). My thoughts on the issue: http://www.blisstree.com/autismvox/show-me-the-science/

How early can autism be detected?

Is there a difference in the brains of young children who are autistic? Studies underway are using MRIs in the siblings of children with autism to determine whether there are changes that can be seen before a year of age. Scans are free to families considered to be at higher risk of having children with autism, and there are several hospitals throughout the country participating in the study.

Hi Catherine,
I would try a social schedule (using PECS) of his day and coming days so he knows that he can be assured of no surprises in his day that may cause him to feel anxious...

Ethan, has now started to have more behavioral problems but I think it has to do with us going away for a week and now we are home. Plus, he is going to be starting school on Wednesday and am sure there will be more behavioral issues to come up. Suggestions to help him get through this rough patch??

Alex, a notoriously picky eater (and dresser), is willing to eat in Chinese restaurants and coffee shops. We're working on making dentist visits smoother, too.

Hi Jill and Barbara. Sorry I haven't been around to welcome you and our other new members. It was hectic with the kids home during the summer.

Hi! I'm Jill, mom to Alex and Ned. Alex (11) has PDD-NOS. Ned (8) is typical. We blog about Alex at autismvox.com - I hope you'll check us out!
