Hello everyone! I'm new to the group but not to Autism :)
I have an almost 10 yr old son- (my 1st) HFA who is fully mainstreamed w/ out an aid. Then, I have a new stepson that is in the mid spectrum with mood disorder, ODD and ADD at a private school paid for by district. This community, is of course, dear to my heart. It's my community. I thank those who started it and will pour out my special needs heart to it.
Love, Julie

Hi everyone. Things have been crazy around here and I haven't been able to check in. We are working on potty training. It's not going too good. He does not want to be potty trained. I told him that he is 10 and it is way past time that he started acting like a big boy. Now he thinks I am mean and that I hate him.

My son added a new to what he will eat. Ham. Not lunch meat ham, although he will eat that on a sandwich if the bread is toasted. Sliced ham, cut into pieces for him. He ate that and salad yesterday for lunch.

Giveaway for Parenting a Child with Disability or Special Needs. This book explains how to prepare for transition to an adult lifestyle beginning when your child is still a child.

When educating others about Autism, I always stress that lack of communication skills is not an indicator of intelligence. A nonverbal child might not show that he/she understands what you are saying, but chances are does understand everything.
