hello, i was diagnosed with bipolar in 2005. i have had three manic episodes since then. i did not take medication for them until recently. my husband is divorcing me and has taken away our 2 year old son. i am now on medication and fighting to get more time with my son. i hope no one has a similar story, but if you do i would love to hear from you.

It was able to skip a generation where i am concerned, my father has it his brothers and mom have it and i was diagnosed with not having itt... my father was diagnosed when he was 15 and so i have grown up around it and watched with a mixture of emotions growing up with the anger, resentment, fears, tears. .. i would never wish this illness upon anyone my parents separated after almost 30 years of marriage 10 years ago, and now i have taken over the role of helping my father who now at 54 has short term memory loss from all the damage he has to done over the years to his body with drugs, and over medicating.... I have been through alot with my father and at times it has been very trying and i have wanted to wash my hands of it all but i just cant it is hard for my husband to understand its really hard to talk to him or my closest friends about it as none of them truly understand so i joined in hopes of meeting people who do understand the dramatic ups and downs of this awful illness...

I was diagnosed with depression at 16 (I'm now 25) but recently found it it's actually Bipolar 2. I'm having a very hard time dealing with it for various reasons and would love to have people to talk too. My kids are 2 and 3 and my hubby is very supportive but I need people who are bipolar moms just like me to talk to. We're still getting my meds figured out so I'm not stable yet. I've had very bad thoughts as of late.

Hello my fellow Bipolar mommies I am so glad that you all are here. I have a almost 3 yr old and a man that has been with me for 12 yrs and has seen my better umm side lol.I have been dx since I was young around say 13-14. I am at the point where I have been on to many meds and I am so sick of them. I stopped taking all my meds around Thanksgiving.I do still pop my xanax from time to time. I am on disability and have several people that come when I can not handle things. I am glad that there is a group here that I can come to and know there are other moms just like me out in the world.

Good advice Christy. Been trying to get my diabetic/congestive heart failure mother on disability for 4 years now. She goes months without treatment because the symptoms are so bad she cannot work and does not have insurance.
My husband has been able to find coupons for just about every medication he has tried. Depakote actually had the best program where he only paid $5 a month for almost a year for the prescription. Also, if there are generics available there are many inexpensive supplement programs that will get you generics for just a few dollars.
The health insurance industry will never make it easy. Christy is right. Just don't give up until you get someone to give you the info you need.

Hi nicole, I dont know what meds they put you on, but I know a few of the main prescription corporations have assistance that can help you pay for their meds or give them to you for free. Also you may want to look into your local health department, hospital, or even your doctor and ask for any free clinics to help you out. If they say they dont know just keep asking for someone who they think would, I know here it can take up to 2 years to get approved for disability and thats if there isnt any problems and everything goes smooth.
