greetings ! i will be moving from australia to vancouver in april so meeting some mums in my new home will be great! i have a 6 year old christina and she is in year 1 (grade 1) but i don't know how it will all work when we arrive in canada...our school year runs from jan-dec but i know yours goes from sept to july...when children finish kindergarten in canada are they able to read simple books or have they just learnt the letters? any info would be helpful.

My Family Day was a comedy of errors. I was so disappointed but now I can at least look back and find it funny. We were scheduled to go to a chidlren's winter carnival in Markham. We were planning to leave at 10am but found ourselves still at home at ten to 11. Then Isak, my husband says, let's maybe eat first. And I'm like, No, it'll be nap time soon. I packed Naomi's (my 18 month old daughter) lunch and some snacks for us.

I gave in and we ate first. So I fed Naomi quickly and we ascarfed down some reheated homemade burger pita sandwiches. And then we rushed out. Then we got lost, even though the directions were supposed to be oh, so simple. The carnival is only 15 minutes away, for crying out loud. But someone didn't bother checking the map.

And then we finally get to the carnival place and we feel so lucky because we found one remaining parking spot. And then we turn to Naomi and... she's ASLEEP!!!

AAAAARRRGH!

I was so mad at the whole situation (and at Isak because I had to blame someone for the delays.)

And I finally calmed down after my dear husband convinced me that all Naomi cares about is to be with mommy and she won't miss the carnival. SIGH.. I guess it's true. But it was a bit of a let down anyway. On the upside, she slept for more than 2 hours and we got to relax.

Okay all you Ontario moms, how great was that Family Day weekend? We really lucked out w/ the weather. We went skiing in Collingwood. What did everyone else do?
