Are you aspiring to Have a HUGE Following on Twitter?

  • Rating: No Rating

Just wondering~ As I see a lot of women are. I can't imagine following so many. I have met some awesome women, that I never would have otherwise though!

When I was using just the web to tweet or my iPhone (yes, major Apple fanatic here) it was so simple with a couple of friends. Then as it has grown to just like the 20 I follow, it got crazy! I started using TweetDeck, which is AWESOME! Oh my, I don't know how peole who keep up with so many don't use it! I am actually going to do a Video Tutorial on using it and basics of Twitter in my Computer Coaching Column on my site this Wed. I am too excited about using it to not share the info!

So how about you?? Are you one of those who want to crack the ceiling? Get 500-1000 followers? And if so, Hey! That's Awesome, I would love to know how many are really out to do that!

I too use TweetDeck and love it! I don't have a goal on how many followers I'm trying to shoot for, or how many I will follow. I'm just seeking out QUALITY in those whom I follow; so that means I do not follow everyone who follows me. When someone follows me, I check out their Twitter page and look at what they've been tweeting, I check their bio and their web site, if they have one listed. I use all that to determine if I believe following them would be a good addition to my tweetstream or not.

I am the same way Traci, and I love that- your Tweet Stream.

:) And since we are to be 'fishers of men', guess we should cast our lines into the the 'Net AND the TweetStream and catch as many as we can, right?! ;)

Sometimes it tough being a Christian online, because it's easy to isolate yourself with just other Christians; but we need to be light for the world. I'm in the web design/internet marketing world - and that whole genre is predominately liberal. VERY liberal. So thankfully God has given me the ability to be diplomatic, without compromising my faith and beliefs.

I don't aspire to break 1000. I follow about 66 peeps now and it is hard to keep up with. I should try TD but not just yet. I'm also picky of whom I will follow. I don't want to follow just anyone for the sake of it.

I love to Twitter.

Those same thoughts were running through my head as I started this group in here at Twitter Moms. I dont like to 'separate' us so much. But I DO want to connect with Christian Women. I agree about being a light!

EVen with 66 Candace - you would LOVE Tweet Deck! I love the way you can have separate groups but all at your finger tips. If 1000 people want to follow me, I dont mind, but me following that many- Oh My! Thats why I like Tweet Deck- you can have your real core tweet friends in one place etc.

I follow quite a few, but with TweetDeck, it allows me to skim the Tweets and I reply to those that I want, or find links to things of interest... stuff like that. Then there's the 'replies' and 'direct messages' columns. LOVE THAT! Then I don't miss those personal conversations with others. It's because of those two columns in TweetDeck that I feel I can follow a larger number of people, and still keep up. I skim the Tweets, & respond only to those of real interest to me; but then don't miss those responses TO me with the other two columns - they don't get lost in the tweetstream with TweetDeck. That's what I like about it. You aren't scrolling forever and possibly missing a direct message or reply.

That said, I too am selective in whom I follow. I do not follow everyone who follows me. I will view someone's Twitter page, read their some of their tweets, read their bio and visit their web site, if they have one listed; and based on what I see will determine if I will follow them or not.

I have actually followed someone, then started getting tweets in that were just not wanted I wanted to be seeing - and unfollowed them. Simple as that. They don't get notification that you unfollowed them, so no offense taken on their part. ;)

Nope not looking for a huge following or to follow tons of people either. I enjoy getting to know the ones I do follow, but could not imagin being able to do that with 100's of people. I actually have several IRL friends in my group of followers/following which is super fun.
I will check out tweetdeck - thanks.

I think it also depends on your reason for joining when I originally joined twitter I wasn't sure what it was and thought it was a cool way to keep up with my family and friends. Then I realized that the number of people you could possibly reach is almost unlimited. I don't believe I could honestly keep up with 1000's of people but if they are following me and get my message I think that is great.

Noelle, what a great question. I often see people mention their follow stats and celebrate milestones for the number of followers they have. Begs the question - Does size really matter? I can feel a wee bit insecure not having as many followers, but I'd already decided that it's not the quantity but the quality that matters. Not to say that there aren't a diverse group of people I follow and vice versa, but that I'm getting a chance to know others with similar interests or complementary businesses. Still, I'm sure it's a sign of Internet clout to have 10,000 want to see what you tweet about. I just don't think I'm ever going to be one of those CyberCelebs. :)

It can for sure lure you away! That another thought about following too many for me. I am not a 'not get involved' person when I see someone tweet something, great tweet, great resource, great site, I cant leave it - I want to see what it is, check it out. I wish there was an auto bookmark to your browser for links so you could just do later!

It's hard not to follow everyone. It really isn't about I DONT WANT to with a lot of people I dont follow, its a look, I can only handle so many, even in tweet deck , it is still relations ya know??? Its amazing how connected you can get to the people you TRULY follow!

I totally agree with you Anne it's not the quantity but the quality that matters. I for sure can't handle the tweets that are non stop from someone and what they are promoting. I mean there are times for it for sure, of course! But every couple of hours, I am like, enough already! If 1000 people want to follow me, I have no problems unless they are freaky! Which I do go in once a week and block anybody that is all adds or whatever. I feel bad, but I will NOT be following 1000 or I can't imagine many more than I am now.
