twitter moms: the influential moms network

Your new textbox

As a Christian, do you seek out other Christians on Twitter to follow? It's easy on forums like Twittermoms to find Christians and follow them, but what about finding other Christians in general on Twitter - have you tried searching? If you do search, you may not turn up what you were expecting, because many are not making their Twitter bios searchable in keywords/tags format.

Since you are limited with character in your bio, as well as in your tweets, put keywords in your bio that are relevant to you and/or your business, hobby or passion WITHOUT commas or punctuation, just spaces between the words. For example, here is my Twitter bio:

Christian homeschooling mom internet marketing SEO 30DC web designer WordPress dogs coffee

Those are things relevant to me and that others searching would understand what those terms meant. If I put in the search term- homeschooling -it currently shows there are 25 pages of results. If I put in- Christian homeschooling -there are only 4 pages of results. Big difference, but it can help you find others with similar interests to follow in your Tweetstream.

We think a like! That was what I first thought of when putting in tags. I actually found you can have more letters by typing and then copy/pasting in. Like mine says...

Christian,Wife,Mom,homeschooler,Singer,blogger, Mac/Apple Addict, NiteOwl, MusicLOVER, Designer, Dramatic,Artistic,Encourager,Techy, ChristianWomenTakeRoot.com

And it says ALL of it on my profile. I even got in my second site there!

I did not even think about not adding the comas, but you are right, why would that matter? Its searching for words, period. I remember searching in the beginning and finding the same thing about both christian and homeschooling.

Not having commas, etc... in your bio matters because your bio is limited to 160 characters. So leaving those out allows for more more words in. ;)

The reason Twitter has it limited to the number of characters they do, is that's all that is visible on SMS/mobile texting.

Yes, my profile is public. I always giggle because I seem to attract all the male Youth workers ;) I have been updating my profile frequently though... and I do look at profiles when people add me to see if they are actually someone I want to follow as well. There are quite a few on my followers list that I do not follow. I wish they had an option to remove followers without actually going through the whole Blocking proceedure. When people have a thousand people they are following, they wouldn't notice if I removed myself, but if they get blocked, then them might... and unless their stuff is 'adult content' that I don't want associated with my profile, I don't see the need to block them. I just don't want to follow someone who talks about coupons or their business the whole time. (did that make sense? Yah, I think I have some weird followers, LOL)

I've only blocked one or two people in Twitter, but I have unfollowed many. When you unfollow someone they do not get notice that you unfollowed them, although they could check their stats and see their follow number go down and know that someone did. If they only had a very few folks following them, then yep - they might know it was you. In that case, if they were bold enough to contact you about why you unfollowed them, I'd be honest enough to tell them. It might make them change their tweeting habits. ;)

But I would not be held 'Twitter hostage' to someone that was tweeting nonsense that I didn't want to receive, just to avoid offending them by my unfollowing. Just unfollow and move on. :)

Oh, I don't follow them... just wish sometimes they weren't following me. When I get the email that someone started following me, I go check them out to see who they are!! I didn't know I could make it so they don't follow me... going to have to check that out!!

Thanks,
Leslie

Sorry - misunderstood! Well, you can block someone AFTER they follow you; but honestly, I don't worry about those following me, because I'm not getting their tweets, they are getting mine. ;)

Hi, I am "rejoining" Twitter Moms. I tried to respond to a "friend" request from my email, and somehow my prior page here was wiped out and I started over. So this is the first group I've joined ... the most important to me... Christian women! I'm inviting you all to be my friends, one by one, but the "send private message" in the request form just freezes up (my computer or the system today, I don't know). So please take the invitation as PERSONAL! Blessings to you all, and many thanks for the Twitter bio tips!
