twitter moms: the influential moms network

Every mom should have her own hobby -- something that's hers, that she identifies with outside of being "mom" or "wife" or "worker". What do you collect?

I collect Sunshine Family Dolls from the 1970's. They were my favorites as a child and I now have a huge collection!

I also collect vintage WWII Japanese Mini jewelry boxes. I only have a few but I just adore them!

I collect many different thing because I'm a packrat but the dolls and boxes are my passion.

I had those dolls too! But I sold them as a kid for money to buy more books (I was a geeky nerd even then lol)

I'd love to see the boxes too...

I collect pitchers. This collecting started with my great-grandmother. Upon receiving a pitcher, she would number each one and then, in her pocket-sized notebook, would log how she obtained it. Her collection ranged from the mundane to the bizarre. When she passed away, my mother inherited a large portion of the pitchers as well as the notebook (seeing her handwritten notes about each pitcher is very touching). It was only about 8 years ago I joined the "pitcher collecting club". It will take YEARS to surpass my great-grandmother's collection, but it will be fun to give it a go.

That's awesome -- such a dedicated collector to leave you the stories and provenance! I'd love to see some photos & scans of the notes to accompany them too.

I collect Annette Himstedt dolls and sewing related items.

I'm the keeper of an unofficial collection of Build A Bears and Mr. Potato Head pieces. My children loved BABS and I indulged their love of the animals and outfits. As my girls got older, I got the animals and accessories and my children add to it every once in awhile. I loved Mr. Potato head as a child and now there's so many different costumes for him and Mrs. Potato Head. I enjoy buying the sets for my two younger boys who will sit with me for hours and play.

Do you collect vintage sewing patterns? I have tons of them but, to the dismay of my home ec teacher, have nearly forgotten how to sew ;)

It's amazing how we end up with our children's things as collections... Or, end up joining them somehow in their collecting -- and I don't just mean being the wallet lol

I'm not familiar with those dolls -- are they baby dolls, boudoir dolls, fashion dolls?

I have a small collection of infant/children vintage patterns. I purchased them mostly for the envelope designs. I would like to copy and frame them.....someday.

Annette Himstedt is a German doll artist. She is known for her vinyl sculpts of children. The dolls are on the large side generally from 28 to 36 inches, some smaller and some bigger.

I have a beautiful collection of French Lalique crystal, Irish Waterford crystal, and Limoges, also from France. I have expensive taste, so I only purchase "key" pieces several times a year, or my family gives me items for birthdays and holidays . All of my items are on display in a special curio cabinet. I love the way they catch the light!
My mom also has an extensive collection of German Hummel figurines. They're so beautiful. I recently read that Hummel will stop producing any more items. What a loss!
I also collect vintage clothing, handbags and shoes (20's-40's only), designer costume jewelry, imported laces, and perfume bottles.
