Welcome to Dance Moms!

My name is Nichelle and I am the founder of this group. I am a professional dancer, dance instructor, dance blogger, and mom to a young son.

Dance Moms: As a teacher, I know that parents are vital to the experience of student dancers and often vital to the dance school itself. You are chauffeur, hairdresser, seamstress, stage crew, and more in the organism that is a dance studio. Your child's participation in dance may have infiltrated your own life and you probably revel in the ways dance has enhanced your child's life. Parents learn and grow along with their children in their pursuit of dance, and it is helpful to have a support system of other parents and friends that can advise, answer a question, or lend an ear when you need to let off a little steam. I hope that you find that here.

Dancing Moms: To those of you who are dancers yourselves. Your passion for dance can be new or old. You may be a student, former dancer, or enthusiast. No matter what has brought you to dance, it is fun to find others who have a similar love for moving and who want to share their experiences, triumphs, and difficulties in dance. I hope you can find that here, also.

The Group: There are all kinds of moms here, including former pros, instructors, and long-time dance moms. I know they want to share their passion and expertise with you so feel free to post questions, offer thoughts, and share helpful resources and links with the group. I've added a feed from my blog Dance Advantage below and welcome your thoughts on any of the topics posted there.

Thanks to Irma for creating the Dance Moms badge! She has designed a scrapbook/journal for keeping dance memories. Please visit her website at www.dancescrapbook.com.

Hi, dancers and dance moms, my daughter dance for 15 years. she is now in college, I miss the dance recitals and dance competitions. I made a dance scrapbook that she recorded her greatest moments. I have redesigned this dance scrapbook so that your young dancer can record their proud dance moments and add photos. Soon your dance scrapbook will be the ulitmate showcase of dance memories. Most of us are trying to balance work, home, and a family life. We tend not to accept the early symptoms of burnout and carry on our daily lives. More life balance tips here: http://bit.ly/yBVfs

Hi everyone - I'm happy to be a member of this group! My 2 older daughters have just decided to get back into dance classes this summer after taking a year and a half off. I have 3 daughters - 18, 15, and 13 and they started dancing when they were 5/6. After all the years of dance classes, Nutcracker performances, recitals....I was ready for a break when they all decided to stop! But I did miss watching them dance - I was never a dancer and was so proud of what they accomplished. Now that my older 2 want to get back into dancing, I'm very excited for them and am looking forward to being a part of the dance-mom world again!

Hi girls, thanks for letting me join Dance Moms!
I have been so busy this weekend, taking the baby twins to kitten class (awwww) and my youngest son to a tap masterclass with world famous Tap Master Rusty Frank. Have blogged about it, we had just the best time! http://teensntwincesses.blogspot.com/2009/06/gotta-dance.html
I almost want to start classes again myself :-)

Hello Moms!

I wanted to see if there was anyone out there that has experienced their child developing asthma during dance? My daughter attends the school of the arts for middle school plus she dances three times a week after school. So basically she is dancing 6 days a week. I just wanted to see if anyone has ever heard of this. Thanks a lot!

Hey moms!

Irma has taken time to create a new DanceMoms badge which we'll use as our group image and possibly as a badge to place on other sites. I'd like to get some of your feedback on the image first, though. So please take a moment to check out this discussion thread.

Thanks!

Hi everyone...I have a son who is 9 and has been taking ballet for 3 years and all boys dance class as well. And my daughter who is 6 has also been doing ballet for three years. I drive during the week during traffic times an hour to get there. I specifically go to this studio in Evanston Il because there are just for boys classes and a boys presense in ballet. I love being in the environment when I there. Recitals are coming up the end of May and they are very special.
