Welcome to Dance Moms!

My name is Nichelle and I am the founder of this group. I am a professional dancer, dance instructor, dance blogger, and mom to a young son.

Dance Moms: As a teacher, I know that parents are vital to the experience of student dancers and often vital to the dance school itself. You are chauffeur, hairdresser, seamstress, stage crew, and more in the organism that is a dance studio. Your child's participation in dance may have infiltrated your own life and you probably revel in the ways dance has enhanced your child's life. Parents learn and grow along with their children in their pursuit of dance, and it is helpful to have a support system of other parents and friends that can advise, answer a question, or lend an ear when you need to let off a little steam. I hope that you find that here.

Dancing Moms: To those of you who are dancers yourselves. Your passion for dance can be new or old. You may be a student, former dancer, or enthusiast. No matter what has brought you to dance, it is fun to find others who have a similar love for moving and who want to share their experiences, triumphs, and difficulties in dance. I hope you can find that here, also.

The Group: There are all kinds of moms here, including former pros, instructors, and long-time dance moms. I know they want to share their passion and expertise with you so feel free to post questions, offer thoughts, and share helpful resources and links with the group. I've added a feed from my blog Dance Advantage below and welcome your thoughts on any of the topics posted there.

Thanks to Irma for creating the Dance Moms badge! She has designed a scrapbook/journal for keeping dance memories. Please visit her website at www.dancescrapbook.com.

Sweet Exchange with a Sugar Plum Fairy

Performing at such a young age in a huge theater with professional dancers helped to start my love of performing, as well as making me more comfortable on stage early on in my training. Also, it was after participating in those two summer programs in Houston that I realized I wanted to pursue dance professionally. Related posts:

Keeping Rhythm Fascinatin’ — How to Make Tap Dance Come Alive

It is a very short list of tap teachers that teach tap in way that embeds it in the heart and soul and fosters a love for the art form at a profound level. Ballet teachers like that? Much easier to come by. Lyrical? Contemporary? Jazz? They’re a dime a dozen these days – teaching classes that are emotionally charged and full of gripping content that draws those elusive adolescents in and keeps their attention. Related posts:

Families Move “Up, Down, & All Around”

Versatility is the real strength of Up, Down, & All Around. Parents (or educators) with little experience can pop in the DVD and get every member of the family or classroom up and moving in no time, yet there are opportunities for new discoveries and learning with repeat viewings. Related posts:

I am so glad I found this group. I am the mother to an 8 year old competitive dancer. We spend countless hours every week dancing. My daughters competition line just participated in Dance for a Cure to benefit St. Jude's. They will be dancing in their first competition of the year next weekend! I look forward to hearing from other dancers/dance moms about their experiences! Even when the music stops you can continue dancing to the beat of your heart!

Hi ladies :) I am new here. Mother of an aspiring Prima Ballerina. I am going to post up some photos of her now on my page, maybe a video lol. She dances about 15 hours a week at Cornish College here in Seattle. We are contemplating moving her to PNB next year for more serious study. She is more dedicated at dance at this age, than I ever have been, its so inspiring!

We just finished the Nutcracker last month (had snow post issues so we had it in Jan!) and now they are getting ready for their big Spring performance in May - rehearsals just started!

Life is never dull for me thankfully :) Nice to meet you all, looking forward to chatting!

Yay!! 40 Dance Moms in our group! Welcome to all the new members.

I hope everyone is doing well. It's a busy time of year. Are your kids preparing for recital? Are YOU? Joined any great new dance classes recently? I'm preparing for a performance in March w/ a dance company in Houston so things are chaotic around our house!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the group (and twittermoms!) and just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I've been an Irish dancer since age 6 and toured with Lord of the Dance for 3 1/2 years. I have a 4 1/2 year old daughter who I've just started to teach and she loves it so far!

Looking forward to being part of this group,
Shona

What a great group! Glad I found it!

I danced as a child until the teens hit & it became "uncool" to dance. Gosh, I could kick myself for not sticking with it.

When my daughter started taking dance, I got back into it and have regained my joy for dance. Have been taking tap for 3 years now and have even been in recitals. :) Right now I'm on the sidelines since I severely injured my ankle doing toe tips one evening, but I'm determined to get back to dancing once I am fully healed.

Love meeting other dancing moms!
Jan :)

Hey everyone! Just wanted to remind you that the group has an awesome forum. If you have questions or want to start a discussion this is probably the best place to do it since responses on the comment wall can get lost. The forum is threaded so that responses can "hang-out" together. I was going to mention this before but well, Kim just reminded me! (Not trying to scold you or anything.) Zumba would make a great forum thread! Anyway, just trying to help. If you have any questions let me know!
