Many of my reps are having issues booking parties-once they have the parties they don't have issues selling the products. Do any home party businesses offer products upfront for just booking the party? If so what type of incentive?

Jill,

While Mary Kay does not offer product up front for booking a party some of our consultants offer either a hostess gift that the consultant purchases from the company and gives to the hostess as a thank you gift or they will offer an extra $25 in product for keeping the party on the original date booked. I hope this helps! I know with the economy the way it is and people leading busy lives it can be tough to get someone to host a party. However, know that all businesses have "seasons" that they go through. Encourage your reps that this season too will pass and the hostesses they have are good, quality hostesses which is better than having a date book filled with flaky hostesses!

Hope this helps!

Hi Kat,

Thanks for your speedy response. This hostess gift that you purchase -is it a Mary Kay product or something else? Could you tell me how much you spend? Are you a leader for Mary Kay?

Thanks again!

Hey there,
In Arbonne, we do. There are a couple of ways to do it. One is we give the hostess a gift at the end of the party. Then I either, offer the same gift to the first person who books a party (and I make sure I have sampled the gift to the guests so they know what it is like), or I say something to the effect of "I have another *insert gift here* and if you book a party, I will give this to you for a dollar amount matching the date of your party. So if you book your party today for the first of the month you can get this for 1 dollar. Book your party for the 5th? 5 dollars" or I play a game called Deal or No Deal. I get several small gift boxes and put a strip of paper with a product name on it in the box with a few chocolates (so that it rattles when shaken). Then explain that if they book a party, they get what is inside the box. Then I go around the room asking Deal or No Deal? If they say Deal, then I get a party. If they say no Deal then I take the box back. Makes sure though if you play Deal or No Deal, that they get the boxes to hold at the beginning of the party so they can sit and wonder what is inside until the end of the presentation.

Also, Arbonne itself offers some incentives as well. If a party does $250 dollars in retail, then the hostess is automatically elegible for $100 of product for $20 and they also offer the opportunity to purchase some hostess gift sets for $25 dollars.

I hope this helps and gives you some ideas to work with =)

Thanks Kendra for your response, that was very helpful.

Do you pay for this "gift" to the hostess or does Arbonne? I am assuming this is in addition to the hostess rewards the host gets based on party sales?

Thanks,
Jill

Yes the gift is in addition to the hostess rewards. Arbonne offers the hundreds for twenties to it's constultants as well based upon sales and it accumulates throughout the month. So usually at the end of the month I take those, and order my hostess gifts for the next month. Its really kind of neat because they allow you to basically double dip. I usually pick up some of the most popular products, such as our makeup primer, or our new body wash or a masque. That way I have something on hand. If they like something in particular, I may use one of my $100's for $20's early and pick their choice up for them and get a few things that I'm either running low on for myself, or something new that I want to try.
I hope that makes sense.

Jill,

It is a Mary Kay product. It is something offered by the company that consultants can purchase and is usually in the $10-13 range. It usually has the Mary Kay logo on it somewhere. Something else that I have been trying lately with my hostesses is that if they are able to get $200 in outside sales BEFORE the party I will give them $200 in FREE product. I'm not making any money that way, but I am not losing any either. It makes my average party's higher and I have already broken even before I get to the party. Anything else is just bonus. Does that make sense?

Jill,

In Premier Designs, our hostesses get $25 in free jewelry just for holding their shows on the originally scheduled date. This is an incentive in the regular hostess benefits plan, and only costs the jeweler $3 when rewarded. However, I usually have a booking incentive for which I am responsible to buy. My booking special changes each month. I use it to book shows through email. At my shows, I play Deal or No Deal just as Kendra explained.

Another activity I have done at home shows is offered customers a discount on their purchase that night if they book a home show. I use numbered envelopes, each containing a gift certificate that gives them either a dollar amount or percentage discount. Before I explain the hostess benefit program, I hand out the envelopes, instructing the guests not to open them. Then I explain our hostess benefits. At this time, I tell the guests that if they are interested in earning free jewelry through a home show, they can also earn an extra discount on their purchases at the current home show. Then, I ask if anyone would like to book a show. Usually at least one person will book at that time. I let her open her envelope. She may have a $10 gift certificate of 25% off her purchase. Once the other guests see that, it is motivation for them. They want to know what is in their envelopes as well.

One of the girls in my downline came up with the envelope game, and it seems to work very well. Ladies are motivated by discounts!

Hope this helps!

Thats awsome! I'm glad the Deal or No Deal game worked for her! 7 is great! I love this game and most of the time it works really well. I just launched my cousin in Arbonne last weekend, and she ended up with 5 parties all together. 5 out of 6 people is great!
So please let me know how it works for you.

Kendra, are you finding it works better with the boxes over the envelopes for deal or no deal? I just love how we bring so little with us to the parties, and wanted to keep it that way..

And I am so excited that Arbonne saves us so much money by the 100's for 20's, both to use that product for our clients and families.. I have teen daughters who had the largest wish list and myself too.. There just is no expenses in this business. They make sure we make great money and we keep our money in our pocket. I love that we have no hostess expenses, Arbonne pays for the hostess credit!!!!!! No quarterly mailings, we just don't put out any money to process a credit card purchase, we have no "uniforms" to wear or buy, even the training is online, no meetings to pay for or attend, all the training is provided free and online via webinars! Arbonne even provides a way for us to earn all our trips, right as a new consultant, I earned my trip to Vegas!! I love that we can earn even our airline reinbursement, Cancun this year is all inclusive for our family! So exciting.. I really love this company, they take such great care of us!

Jill, I love Silpada! My rep and I have a great relationship! You know, I am sure you already know this, but when I attend networking events, I wear my favorite pieces, and you know, women beeline it across the room, and ask me if that is Silpada I have on. It always starts a conversation for my business too, because people comliment on it, and it is an easy way for me to grow my reps business, as well as my own business too. It is all about meeting new people, and I love how Silpada makes us look! I probably wear atleast 3-4 pieces everyday! I mix it too with other items, but love love love your products!

Hi Pamela,
I like the boxes better myself. They are small, and really just big enough for the chocolate and the strip of paper. That way it rattles and since what is inside is their hostess gift, I think it is fitting that they actually recieve a little gift box. I actually haven't done it with envelopes. So I don't know if that works any better.
As for keeping what you bring to a minimum, I totally understand where you are coming from. Arbonne actually sent me 2 FC5 bags with an order so I just put all the little boxes in one of those, and then my RE9 kit and my two other favorite items in the bag they gave me for signing up along with order forms, sign up sheets, my flip chart and calendar, and I'm good to go.
I agree. I really love that you don't have to put a ton of money upfront to do this business. That is really what drew me to it. I also appreciated that my uplines really made it clear not to buy things just to boost numbers. It was really helpful to have that kind of pressure off my shoulders. I love it that Arbonne focuses on the activity and that the results will follow as long as one is consistant. =D
