i read that the way you dress can greatly influence your home decor style - do you think that is true or false? after careful checking out my wardrobe with my home - i think it is true - at least for me. i like to wear contemporary fashion with a retro/vintage twist (maybe the print or jewelry) - and that is how my home is decorated. very contemporary, with a splash of vintage with the art i am drawn to. for example, my home office is very sleek in sky blue, brushed silver, and wasabi green - and the artwork is all by rodney white canvas'. http://rodney-white.com/galleries.html

i love interior design n decorating! My fashion and my decor is very diversified based on my thoughts, feelings, and life. My closet is full of function and comfort from the most formal long evening wear, the classiest business wear & suits, to the most casual holey jeans & tshirts. My house is basically the same way containing both functional and comfortable rooms.
Upstairs:
I have my formal living room full of a full elegant red & gold formal couch set, glass, crystal, gold accents, old black and white family photos and beautiful dark wood and rod iron furniture with a big bay window with drapes that seem to compliment and pull together the whole room.
My formal dining room with a deep merlot color on one wall, a champagne on the others. A dark wood dining set from the 50s with a china cabinet and buffet to match that are some of the most beautiful furniture i own. wine and grapes are the accent theme with my formal china and silver carefully placed around the room.
My kitchen also continues the more formal look.
My upstairs sunroom is our turtle room and is themed with our sea turtle collection and anything beach/ocean related.
We have 3 bedrooms upstairs. The master - red & white roses. deep hunter green bedding and accents. Elijah's room - nursery done in stars, moon, planets. Our guest room - my closet is in there. antique formal furniture. decorated for a little girl using my childhood favorite collections. Unicorns, dolls & carousel horses.
My bathroom is pastels with butterflies & flowers. Dh's is blue.
Downstairs:
family room. All entertainment and movie decor. Framed movie posters, movie memorabilia, toys, and collectables. very informal, but very welcoming. wood paneling, fireplace and big overstuffed couches.
dining room/kitchenette country. apples. basic woods, simplicity
bathroom spa theme. big garden whirlpool tub. blue & yellow. sunflowers. relaxation
downstairs sunroom, dh's room his room! full of his collectables & memoriabilia. Retired army/police officer so mostly Police theme
my office, craftroom, eli's playroom my half is no set decor. hockey and art posters framed next to eachother. elijah's half is full of creativity and fun. pop culture exploded! toys and collectables.
laundry room not very decorated but what is in there is more of a 60's feel.

I will upload photos as soon as i can! hope this at least painted a semi picture!

Well, my fashion style is more tailored with clean lines - sophisticated with a slight elegant slant. So as I'm looking around my house, it does seems to fit that description too. I HATE clutter so my interior design style tends to be clean and simple. The majority of my furniture has clean lines with a tailored look. But, I never connected the two. I always thought I was decorating to fit the architecture of the house. We live in a California bungalow house - so I wanted to keep the "cottage" feel of the house (less formal feeling with a California casual-elegant feel).

Anyways, I have so much more I want to do to my house. So, this helps me focus on a "look." That's my biggest problem - I love almost everything I see in terms of decorating...I need focus - this really helps! Thanks!

I completely agree that your wardrobe can express your sense of decorating style. If someone enjoys wearing bold & bright colors, then most likely they will do the same in the decor of their home. If someone dresses more modest and plain, then they will probably use a lot of subtle tones in their decorating.

If you are dead set on neutral colors, such as taupes and beiges - feel free to use them on your walls. But tie it all together with a pop of color in a chair or a flower arrangement. Warm the room up with some interesting artwork or accessories. Don't be afraid of color!!

I would have to say it's true, the way you dress can be mirrored in the decor of your home. Let's take it up a notch. Which one of the followings motivates you?

Peace/calm-greens-
Fun-Yellows
High Achiever- Red
Order-Blues

Note, I put the color that suits your character behind it.

It's likely the decor of your home will reflect your fashion. More important that is reflects your personality
I have two rules of thumb when it comes to decor.
1. Buy only what you love. Regardless of whether you know what you are doing
or not, if you continue to buy what you love, your will love the decor of your home.
2. Stick with your favorite colors
