Ok Dog Lov'n Mom's there is this little orange and white kitten my daughter's preschool teacher has, she has a small litter. I really want it. I don't know why. If I were to get a cat this is the color I would get. Who has a cat and dog and can give me their 2 cents worth?

I have 4 cats at the moment and a dog (plus a free running rabbit), and everyone gets along just fine for the most part. If one of the cats get in Pudgy's face when she's chewing on a bone, she'll growl at them, but that's about it.

I think it depends on your dog. Since it's a kitten you would like to get, he/she should more easily adjust to the dog much easier than an adult cat that might be afraid due to a past incident.

I would introduce them slowly with supervision, and maybe take a blanket or toy that the cat has used to the dog so the dog can get used to the smell just before you bring the kitty home.

Thanks for the idea about using a blanket with the cat scent on it. I didn't even think of that! My husband is not into this idea because he doesn't like cats. Soooo it's still up in the air. Just wanted to know what people thought.

I have a cat and a dog, and always have had both.

If you get the cat as a kitten your dog and the cat are likely to become great buds.

WHen I got my current kitty I had a 10 yr-old Yellow Lab who was mellow. The cat immediately took over his bed, even as a kitten.

And now, with Benny Bix Ochman Labradoodle, the same cat is very bossy. he often sleeps in Benny's bed, doesn't let the dog on my bed, and often chases the dog around. Benny comes to me for protection!

The key is for one of them to be a baby. Bringing an adult cat into a house with a dog would be a much bigger challenge.

BL,
I was worried that Cocoa might hurt the kitty, but let's face it, a miniature poodle is really one gene away from being a cat! That's funny that Benny Bix is scared of a kitty! Do you think male cats are bossier than females? I wanted girl kitty so she doesn't spray, but then someone at my husband's office said girl cats can spray!!! Hey people work with me. Still trying to convince Dan that a kitty is a good idea. And yes I sent in the big guns, my 4-yr-old Charlotte. To be continued....

I have 4 cats and 3 dogs. It has all worked out. I say go for it and give this little bundle of joy a wonderful home.

I have 20 pound poodle, Andre, who gets along with all the cats. Of course when the cats were kittens we kept a close eye on them and didn't leave them alone with the dogs. Cats are pretty good at defending themselves if need be and they can really jump. We didn't get all our cats at one time. When we would get a new kitten we would keep it in our room to let it adjust and then slowly introduce them to the other pets in the family.

Sheila,
I think that might be a good idea to keep her away from Cocoa esp at night for a little while. Now I really want her, I just have to convince Dan that it's no big deal. I think I am almost there. Why do we need any of these pets and what makes you want more? I think those are interesting questions. I do not know why I want this kitty so badly. I'm certainly not lonely...I just want to be surrounded by life. My daughter, Ava wants a kitty is bad too. How was your husband about having all these animals? Was he all on board or did you have to convince him? Hey great game last night...go wings..tonight is going to be hot!

Yes, get a cat! I had my cats before I got my puppy. My dog is totally playful and loving towards the cats, but the cats don't like the dog. They just ignore him, but everyone is peaceful for the most part.

Hi,
We have always had a dog and several cats at any one time. Right now we have one dog and two cats. Since our dog came after the cats were here, our dog thinks the cats are just puppies to play with. Oh, we also have an exotic bird in the mix too, so it gets really interesting around here. I wouldn't hesitate to get a kitten, just be wary of the cat and dog being together until you know the kitten is safe with the dog.

Cheers,
DeAnna

Sorry for being MIA everyone - my business has kept me busy!

We have two indoor cats and six dogs and everyone gets along fine. The dogs used try to chase the cats, they got them cornered, and then just licked them, sit and want to play with them; or walk off. It used to scare the cats, now they hardly even run. LOL

Well, I want one and my husband DOES NOT....it's a stand off. He'll win this one.
