Tracy: Yes, I've been feeding him, treating him, talking to him. He is not our first rescued dog with issues ;) I am taking it slow and will see how it goes.

Petra: give the little fella time. Could be a lot going on at once. I would suggest that YOU be the one to feed him. YOU give him some treats, by hand. See if that doesn't make him warm up to you. ;)

Shelley - cute giveaway! Is that your Pug in the photo on the blog? That's one the nicest looking Pug's I've ever seen! Truly a spectacular representation of the breed from what I can see in the photo. I love Pugs! :)

So cute Dawn. I've heard from many that Pit Bulls are very loving!! It's all in how they are raised & trained that make them mean - which could be said of any breed of dog really. This is one key reason why I'm staunchly against breed banning laws.

Hi Tracy,

Yes, I did just that! Googled the breed, read alot of into, talked to a couple of breeder/show handlers, and got as much info about the actual dog himself from the owner. We met and brought him home yesterday. He's here with us on trial to see if we all get along. So far he is very calm, very scared of everything, but likes all the members of our family, especially my 3 yr old, but he doesn't seem to like me! He barks and even does a little growling. When I walk into a room he hides or runs into another =( We'll see how it goes over the next day or so...

I can't believe how much I adore this dog that I wasn't expecting and didn't necessarily even want!! I can't believe I've gone from being a Pit Bull hater to being a Pit Bull advocate...well trained, well loved and well socialized they really are the BEST dogs!! Our Jasper is afraid of Patrick...the Miniature Greyhound next door. Cracks me up!! I love reading about everyone's dogs...they truly are a part of the family!

Hi Petra - I do not have any experience with Skye Terriers. I know typically Terriers in generally aren't *always* the best breed to have with small children; however, sure as you say that, someone always pipes up and gives a shining example of their Terrier that is wonderful with small children. ;)

My best advice is to do a Google search for Skye Terriers and read up on them and get general information about the breed; then email and/or call some owners and get their experience with the breed. Also too, find a Skye Terrier specific email list and message forum so you get a large variety of owners and breeders who have the breed and read about their experiences.

Dogs are all individual and unique and temperament can be bred into a dog similar to color, and of course behaviors can also be learned; so one wild & crazy, small child hatin' Skye Terrier, due to a bad past experience, or poor breeding - doesn't mean they all are. ;)
