Comment by Angel of Angel's Realm on May 10, 2009 at 9:06am: It took A LOT to get where I am today. I did all of the leg work in getting proof that he was the one behind stalking my parents and I through the mail, but he did go to jail for it, 2 years probation and Anger Management classes.

The highlight was 2 years ago on his birthday. I was able to drive, behind him (in a loaner car from the dealership) on my way home (him not even knowing I was there, or even who I was) through where he last tried to kill me... When I drove past him I blew the horn and flipped him off. BOY did that feel good. The look on his face when he realized just who I was and what I did.. *lol* I was SO happy that I drove to where my husband was working on my best friends house to tell them. I'm no longer afraid to drive in or though that town.

Its such a feeling knowing he no longer has power over me. I do catch myself looking over my shoulder, still, when we are in town. I still have flashbacks and nightmares about what happened, but they are no where near as often.

I'm a suvivor of 7 years of emotional/physical abuse, rape and 3 attempts on my life. September 9th 1992 to June 8th 1999. Now, 10 years later I have a beautiful 7 year old girl (who's father I divorced & isn't the guy that hurt me so long ago) and a husband who loves me so very much. I am a very blessed woman. :)

Comment by DPopTart on April 22, 2009 at 3:13am: I'm sorry I haven't been as responsive as I should be, "life" has been less-than-gentle these days (first with the Fargo flood and then cellulitis), but (knock wood!) things are becoming more 'Normal' -- whatever that is ;)

Comment by christine hartridge on March 10, 2009 at 3:10pm: Hi and how wonderful everyone is for sharing stories in their lives that are so hard. I am a 'late bloomer' in escaping domestic violence. My relationship now (5 years) is loving, nurturing, supportive and we just don't have any fighting or negativity. My partner was in an abusive relationship (yep it happens to the men too) and I am a survivor of many years of both mental and physical abuse. If only 'access' didn't have to be allowed life would be a lot easier to rebuild - it only allows continued abuse and power play

Comment by Curvaliscious on January 18, 2009 at 6:10am: That is so true dpoptart. I think that it was a good thing for my oldest to have him charged but we were SO relieved when he pled guilty because both of us were terrified about testifying against him. I dread the day that he gets out of jail!

It's been nearly 6 years for me, and I still find unexpected pockets of shadows which still affect me. Healing takes time -- and when you're a mom, like most things, we worry about our kids first and so it takes even more time to get around to ourselves.

Comment by Curvaliscious on January 17, 2009 at 7:49pm: Hello everyone I am new to Twitter Moms. I lived in a very abusive marriage for 8 years before finally leaving him two years ago. He was physically, emotionally and sexually abusive with me and physically and emotionally abusive to my oldest daughter. We had him charged with child abuse and domestic violence this past year and he pled guilty to all the charges, receiving a years incarceration. He unfortunately comes up for parole in April 2009. I hope that I will be able to offer some support to everyone in the group... I am learning that the healing takes a VERY long time. Two years later and in a fantastic relationship with a good man and I am still feeling the affects of the abuse but I am finally starting therapy in March thank goodness.
