When your child has a particular attachment to one of your cats and due to any situation the cat is gone (you had to find another home, running away, etc.) how do you help them deal with the loss? Is there a grieving process? Do you find a replacement?

If the cat dies, we all cry (Daddy, too) and talk about how we can still hear and see her/him. When one of our cats disappeared we put up signs and posters and looked for him. Finally I told the kids that it just wanted to be a free kitty - like in the Lion King.

And, yes, we always get another cat. Not right away, but a cat (or cats) usually finds us when we're ready for it. Right now we have three.
