Firefighter Wife

Wish You Could Know

I felt compelled to find this poem today as there was a post recently on our firewives forum about an article in a paper talking about a couple of MVA’s in a row and then what some people were posting in the comments after the article. Now I know that people will post things [...]

Will It Ever Get Easier?

As you probably saw in a previous post, our adjoining little fire department lost a firefighter. As I put in that post I said that I figured my hubby would know her and he did. She actually helped out with his EMT class ages ago when he first started as a volunteer. [...]

Update to Fallen Officer

Here’s the deal, I am deeply ingrained in the cops. I mean deeply, damn it I have some that are like brothers and I have a couple like sisters. I’m in the service industry completely. So, while I am a firefighter wife I hurt right now for the fallen officers family. It has [...]

Sadness for Fallen Fire and Police

It’s with a heavy heart that I post this super early am. I had another post planned but I will hit that later in the day. My husband was a volunteer for 8 years before getting hired on. He had the privilege of working pretty closely in the early years with the town next [...]

Hilarious Video

So I’m a little cranky at my husband today, he just doesn’t think to help me with my blogging. lol He was on youtube last night searching around and finding fire videos of course and found quite a few cool one’s. But he didn’t bookmark them! I told him he has [...]

Hi Ladies, my name is Kim and I am married to a Maplewood Firefighter. I belong to the auxillary to the local 2665 but don't get to attend much because of lifes schedules. I have a 5yo little boy and a 2yo little, sassy girl. I am a physical therapist assistant in an outpatient setting and have been doing it for the last 11 years (wow it has been that long?) Glad to have found you since this is much easier than the meetings.

I rip into everyone constantly. I'm a personal trainer and I know they eat horrible. My husband has put too much weight on over the last 2 years he's been at this station. We've gotten to the point that we typically plan the meals ahead and he brings them in. They can't eat steak every shift!!!!

You've totally hit a sore point for me. They've even plumped up the 23 year old probie, it makes me so mad :(

Hi Ladies, thought I'd pass along this link I saw on Twitter today, http://ow.ly/19Cn. Study done on Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Firefighter higher risk rate. For training last month my husbands dept had a nutritionist come in and we've been discussing food and what we eat a lot lately. Granted the stress of what they do plays a large role in this study, but I think a good diet and regular physical exercise is really important as well. Just thought I'd pass this along!

Take care - Gail

Hi everyone - I don't know if I'm welcome here or not! I was the wife of a firefighter, but we divorced many years ago. However, my son who is now 33, has been involved with Firefighting since he was 12 years old. His Grandfather & Gr.Grandfather were also firefighters, so I guess you could say it's in his blood! Anyway, he devoted his life to this honorable profession always in Volunteer capacities, taking many courses along the way, working his way up to Chief of his dept. He has just recently realized his dream by securing his coveted position with the Baltimore Fire Co.! His wife, daughters, the rest of the family, and of course me, are extremely proud & happy for him. But we share the anxiety that you all go through. When I was married to his father, I ran the auxillary for our Fire Co., during my pregnancies, and with 3 small children! Sometimes it was no easy task, but luckily my parents lived close by, and were always willing to come stay with them day or night! I always kept large cans of soup, coffee, hot chocolate, warm blankets, and had the number of Dunkin' Donuts memorized! I was very proud to be able to help in any way possible.
Well, I just wanted to say hello, and give you a little bit of my background! Sorry it was so long! Hope to talk with you all soon,
Sue

Welcome Shanee,

Glad you found us here. It's great to connect with other women that know exactly what we are going through!

Hello, just joined twitter yesterday and was very happy to have found this group so soon!! My husband is a full time firefighter/paramedic. We have 3 kids and it's hard when he is gone sometimes - but what an honorable job to have. I'm looking forward to connecting with those who know what our daily lives are like.

Angela, I was warned by everyone about that. I have never felt unsafe in my house, but we had a druggy being chased trying desperately to get int the house. First time I'd ever called 911. Hubby was on shift of course, cause what are the odds? Thankfully he was at his home station seconds away and those are his boys that will make sure coverage happens so you can leave when it is needed like that.

I never, EVER call and need. I hated making that call, but OMG, I couldn't stop shaking and I knew I couldn't sleep without him that night. I've never been so afraid in my life, I was so worried about protecting my kids.

I am married to a fulltime firefighter/paramedic, we have 3 kids and it gets tough when daddy is gone a lot. my husband works for Metro West Fire Prot. Dist. and he sometimes will work 48, and 72 hour shifts. Of course that's always when I have to take one of my kids to the ER or something

I'm a newbie. My fiance and I have been together for almost 3 years, have a 19mo old son, and are getting married this Saturday. I'm sooooooo glad to have found out about this site and this group. My husband to be is a First Responder/Volunteer Firefighter. He also works full time with a local ambulance service. It's nice to be able to meet other women who will understand and appreciate the number of nights I've cried because I missed him so much. This business is in his blood...it's his life (well, it's OUR life). I still have my moments when I don't like things, but, at least now I will have others to talk to.
