We are secure as well. They hired 11 new guys after us 2 years ago. lol We were in construction for 15 years before that and in this economy I would be freaking out about him having a job. SO VERY THANKFUL on the timing of him getting hired on.

we are lucky, my husbands job is very secure. SFFD is city and county and a they are short-staffed currently so there is even over-time too.

That's so the way around here right now. Cities seriously can not afford to keep their departments. Our dept. is in negotiations with another city right now. Just means more job security for us :)

BTW, hi Connie! Thank you for joining us!

Oh just an FYI Liz, Connie and I don't live far from each other. lol Haven't met, but just down the freeway a bit.

Oh, we're near Seattle, WA and with all the department mergers DH will either work for Seattle or the one that covers the area south of Seattle to Federal Way (can't remember the name of it). Hoping for Seattle as they pay better :)

Hi all - I'm sure I'm the old lady of the group :) My DH is a lieutenant/fire fighter/emt/wildland ff and has been for over 30 years (he's 50, I'm 47). He works 24 on/24 off/24 on/24 off/24 on/24 off/24 on/4 days off. Hard to keep track? Yep, I gave up years ago and just always ask him what he's doing tomorrow. :)

Because I have MS and had to quit my full-time job and we have a son in college, my DH works construction on his day off for his brother. Because of the economic crisis construction has pretty much stopped so we're trying to adjust to losing the income while my online sales have stalled as well.

It's a little scary right now - we were used to having 2 full-time incomes until 2 years ago.

We've been married for 25-years this last October and are a rarity in his department. The divorce rate is incredibly high. Very sad.

Our oldest son is moving home on December 31st with our blessing to save money and I couldn't be happier. It's too quiet around here and quite lonely. My youngest is in his 3rd year of college across the state but will be home for the holidays.

That's it - me in a nutshell :)

my husband works 24 on, 48 off, but he's been doing some doubles trying to make some extra money for us, as I'm a realtor and business has been very slow obviously! He's done 2 48 hour shifts with 24 off in between. I'm tired with a newborn and special needs toddler

Hubby off to work tomorrow. Sometimes it's harder than others for the set to start. We've had a fun 4 days off.
