I liked doing my own (basic level) HTML until sites made it easy not to use code anymore. :) I still enjoy trying to read/figure out the codes sometimes.

Yeah, I hate how places like Myspace and various other sites have made it impossible to customize and input your own code.

Totally. I miss the days of actual HTML. I love Dreamweaver cause even if you didn't want to take your time to do all the coding by hand you could still go in and make all the corrections by hand unlike FrontPage which just wasn't even really HTML. Ok enough of my soap box. I will stop now before I get too upset.

I edit using HTML-Kit.

I haven't moved on from HTML for any of my own stuff, which isn't much really. I edit it using Vim - I'm actually faster with that nowadays.

I started doing HTML on notepad back in the early '90s. That's how I learned to do websites, but I need to play catch up now with some of the newer stuff.

Oh finally, I've really found my peeps on twittermoms.
This is awesome.
I was writing web pages in HTML before there were graphic editors :) In vi, vim, notepad or whatever text editor was at hand.
I've also done my fair share of scripting, coding and db maintenance.
Very glad to have found you gals - and thanks to Carolyn for pointing me this way.

No, not at all, that's how I do it most times when muh Kit ends up messing up (sometimes it'll freeze/give an incomplete preview).

LOL, I still use Notepad. Is that sad?

Definitely not. Tables are organized and clean. Whomever said it was gauche is gauche themselves, or likes incredibly messy web pages.

I love to write my own HTML and CSS, and I agree it is disappointing to see so many sites move away from allowing members use their own code. I got around this by setting up a really old school website - which is completely naff - but does give me the chance to delve around in code as much as I like.

Oh, and I tend to use Notepad too, I learnt to write code using it, so it's always seemed simpler and less faffy than the WYSIWYG type editors.

No, you aren't a bad person, and using tables isn't gauche. A lot of people are sniffy about them because they aren't compatible with web standards any more, except for displaying data. The official line is that you should use CSS for positioning, but if you want to use tables go ahead - I've noticed some pretty big sites using them, so you'll be in good company.

I have a basic knowledge of html and how it works. The first websites that I did were done doing the code directly. I'm lazy these days, but glad I can still read it enough to find problems when they pop up. I try to keep my website neat and clean, though did recently add a book teaser. Haven't had any bad feed back from it, but will pull it down if someone complains it makes the page load slow.
