I would call your local school and ask. Ours is entirely through the public school system. We live in a good sized city. Our state requires testing in the first grade. Every first grader is tested. Parents or teachers can request testing earlier and then in subsequent grades if they feel a child might fit in these classes. Our school system has a Gifted Resources Specialist in almost every school. They also have an elementary and middle school strictly for the kids that test the highest. These I guess are called Magnet Schools and have a phenomenal program.

I have heard of classes for gifted students, and was even in one myself in elementary school that I have fond memories of. But, I have never heard of a Gifted Resources Specialist. My son is only 4 but I feel he will need these services and I am trying to make sure I get him in a school system that will offer these kind of programs. Do you know of any resource for finding such services?

I had a meeting with my son's Gifted Resources Specialist last week. She likes to get parents together to show them different methods that are used in her teaching. This group was about problem solving tactics. It was really interesting.

Does your school's GRS get you involved? Show you their methods?

Hi, I started this group because I've recently entered the world of Gifted and Talented learners and I'm always wondering if I'm doing my son's brain justice while not bringing too much attention to it.
